for weeks, we worked on "what if." by time, i started to be more interested in music. thanks to johnny, i learned how to play piano. my very small dream of being a musician was coming true. the song released this weekend. going to an art school, i was scared of what music majors would think about the song so i tried my best to stay away from social media. it's fucked with my head enough.
with johnny's arm around me, we walked into the school hallways. i immediately felt eyes on us. i was anxious and i can tell johnny was too. as i reach my locker, more people smiled. we met with our friends who attacked us with hugs, congratulating us about the song. what happened next was something i definitely will never forget.
"hey, you guys are kenzie and johnny right?" he was one of the music majors, seniors. i felt sick as we nod. "and you guys are freshman?" he asks once more, "yep." johnny spoke for the both of us. "your song is amazing." as he walks away, we smile, hiding all of our excitement. soon, the same group of students who blasts music with their speaker walks in. but it wasn't just any other song.
"that's our song," i said aloud. "oh my god, johnny that's our song!" i started to cheer in excitement, and everyone else joins. i hug johnny tightly. i was proud of us. i was proud of him.
for the rest of the day, i got more and more compliments about the song, as well as criticism. it didn't matter. i was happy, and nothing would've changed that. i met with the orlando's after school as dale wanted to talk to us. mer drove us to their home and after we've arrived, johnny led me inside. "there my stars are!" dale stood up from the couch. "hey dad. what's up?" johnny smiles and we took a seat. "so, 'what if' was a hit-" he starts and our we smile from ear to ear.
"the studio called me hours ago and asked you if you guys can write another song!" dale continues. johnny's smiles even wider, hiding every bit of excitement. i laugh. "let's do it!" "great! let me call them back!" dale reaches for the phone and johnny faces me. "are you sure you want to do this?" he asks as his smile fades away. "yes, johnny, stop asking me that! writing 'what if' was really fun." i say, "plus, that's when we fell in love right?" i smile. "right."
i kiss him before he grabs my hand to take me up to his room. "we're going to start writing, dad!" he yells as we run upstairs. i jump on the bed, feeling myself getting comfortable. i swear to god, i'll move in just to genuinely sleep on this bed. johnny jumped on me and kissed me. "so kenz, what shall we write about?" he asks. "us? duh."
