i walk up the front steps and i rang the doorbell of the orlando's house. soon i came face to face with johnny orlando. "hey." i smiled, "h-hey, come in." he stammers. i walked in and sat in the couch, him following. "okay, i'm sorry-" johnny starts to say, and i started laughing, interrupting him. "johnny, you did nothing wrong. it was me. i'm just not ready, you know?" i say, and he nods. "yeah, i understand." he hesitates, "so we good?" i smile and kiss him. "yeah, we're good."
their home phone rang and johnny went to go and answer it. "you guys still have a home phone?" i joke, "haha." he sarcastically laughs, before answering. "hello? yes, this is he. mackenzie is with me right now." john says inbetween pauses. i stare confused, wondering what was happening. "yes, give me a moment." johnny puts the phone on speaker. "okay, can you guys hear me?" a familiar voice syas from the other line. "yes mrs. santos." johnny responds. it was our english teacher.
"i showed your song to my husbands and he showed his friends. basically what i'm trying to say is that universal music wants to sign the song and get it out there for you!" she tries to explain. "wait, wait, really?" johnny tries his best to hide his excitement. "yes! i'll tell you the details after class tomorrow, bye." "bye!" she hangs up.
excited, johnny took me by the waist and swung me in circles, constantly yelling "yes!" he calmed down and set me down. "oh my god, i can't believe this is happening." i say, "sheesh, this is like my dream come true. and with you." he flashes his smile at me, "damn, i never thought i would be doing this." i hesitate, "i don't think i can do this." "what are you talking about? mackenzie, you have a talent. don't let it go to a waste."
i saw how much this meant to him, so i gave in. "let's do this." i smile. "yes, yes! yes, i love you!" he jumps in excitement. me, an artist who only sang in the shower, dropping a song we did for a project.

we walk into the studio and it was an understatement to say that johnny was amazed and excited. i was amazed, but more nervous. music didn't feel like my thing. and maybe they won't even like me. they'd like johnny, that's for sure, but me—okay kenzie relax.we met a guy who led us to a conference room. i couldn't pay attention, i felt overwhelmed. they basically talked to our parents about possible consequences, and about music videos, i don't know, i really was just doing this for johnny. they soon led johnny and me in a recording studio. "whenever you guys are ready." the guy says. the instrumental started to begin and johnny sang the first verse.
the rest felt like a blur. "you guys did great! we'll do some editing, create a beat, and we'll call you back in." the guy says after the song ended. i smile as we exited the building. i gave johnny a kiss goodbye, and i hug his parents. i slide into my mom's car. but before we go home, she looks at me. "what, mom?" i chuckle. "are you sure you want to do this? i never thought you would be doing music." she says, and i nod. "me too, but," i hesitate. "what's the harm in doing something new?" i smile.
i meant it. it was overwhelming, but it seems fun. plus, i'll be doing it with johnny. besides, so many things have happened this year that was new to me and would have never expected to do. so what's another new thing?
