i walk into school to see my friends standing by my locker, except for johnny. "hey!" i smile as i unlock my locker. "hey." they all greeted. "we kind of miss you." jules says as everyone else agrees, "i do, too." i sigh. "so can you please sit with us at lunch?" lauren says, making a pleading face. "yeah, please!"
i chuckle as everyone started basically begging me like little babies. "okay, okay. fine." i give in to their pouty faces.
they all whooped and cheered as i laughed. "hey kenz." i hear a familiar voice say. "hey austin!" i smile. "oh guys! this is austin," i walk over to him, while looking at everyone else. "austin, this is.. everyone else.." they all introduce themselves.
"he's new, and i was wondering if he can sit with us at lunch." i smile. "yes, definitely!" they all say happily, as austin grins. "well, i better get going. see you guys later!" he says, and walks away. was that kind of weird?
when second period came around, i walked in, greeted brynn and joey, and sat down at a desk by the back of the room. being a good student, i started working on my algebra homework as everyone talked with their friends. brynn and joey flirting—still kind of suprised by the fact they haven't dated yet. emily skinner and lilia buckingham smile at each other in the other side of the room. i became friends with both of them this year, and i can't even deny how cute their friendship is. zoe's friends most likely gossiping, and of course, zoe flirting with johnny.
i roll my eyes and get back to work waiting for this class to end, even if it hasn't even started.
"a little jealous?" i jump and see brynn standing in front of me. "what the hell brynn?! you scared the shit out of me!" i put my hand where my heart is as i calm down. everyone, along with brynn, started laughing as i start to feel myself turning red. i guess i yelled a little too loudly.
"alright class! settle down!" our english teacher walks in. "i'm sorry i'm late.." she goes on as everyone sits down and i organize my stuff. just as i look up at the board, i can feel a pair of eyes looking at me. with the corner of my eye, i can see that those eyes, were johnny's.

"don't worry kenz, he'll be here." i whisper to her, holding her hand as she scans the lunch room for austin. i guess they grew close this past couple of days. she sighs, "i hope so."
"did you guys hear about the dance?" lauren says as she sit's down beside mackenzie. johnny, who was with her, sits down beside hayden. "what dance?" i ask. "i don't know much about it but everyone seems excited for it." lauren replies. "yeah, lexi jayde is in the dance committee." jayden says.
lexi jayde was an old friend of kenzie's and i but we grew apart. she's a junior now and has been in student council, dance committee, and she's doing music. not to mention how smart and popular she is.
"i heard that it's for the freshman and seniors. like a first dance for us, and a last dance for them." lauren continues, as i stare at lexi with a clipboard. i can imagine that she's already imagining what she wants it to look like. "ooh, that's exciting!" kenzie says.
suddenly, johnny comes up to me, "can i talk to you ?" he asks. i nod in response, and follow him out of the cafeteria. "what's up?" i say. "okay, i know this is really weird. and you can punch me if you want to. i won't blame you." i laugh at him. "but, i wanted to ask for permission, if i could, probably," john hesitates as if i'm going to bite his head of. "ask mackenzie to go to the dance with me?" he says shyly.
usually, a girl wouldn't give him a chance and would be so jealous. but i didn't. in fact, i was very happy about it. i knew deep inside me that they would be a lot happier together than when johnny and i were together. i jumped for joy, "yes! oh my god! definitely!" i say excitingly. "really?" i nod, but he still looks at me confused. "are you sure?" he asks. "yes! i am! plus i have someone else in my mind." i say and smile. aidan merwarth walks passed us, giving me a little smile. he walks into the lunchroom as i can feel myself turning pink.
"oooo, you're blushing!" johnny jokes in a singsongy tone, and pokes me by my side. "i am not !" i defended myself, knowing damn well i was.
aiden meswarth. he's my biology partner. we kind of got close this couple of weeks, mostly after he found out johnny and i broke up. he's nice, funny, and, come on, he's hot! i wouldn't be lying if i said i do miss johnny a little. but maybe it's time to move on. and it's not like i'm using aiden to move on from johnny. cause if johnny and i never have dated, i would have fell hard for aiden— like i am now.
"okay we better go back in." i say as i start to turn around. "wait!" john says, stopping me. i shot my head back at him. "so are we cool?" he asks. "yeah. like i told kenzie, let's just forgive and forget." we both smile and head back into the cafeteria. johnny smiles at mackenzie, and mackenzie being mackenzie, she smiles back. as he walks back to his seat, she blushes, and looks down at her fingers. she's probably melting inside. i laugh and whisper, "just date already!" "shut up!" she punches my arm as we both laugh.
and from across the cafeteria, i stare at aidan. he smiles, and i smile back.
