After breakfast, the ladies retired to the parlor while the men went on their way to discuss business issues.

Amelia followed the lady Bellecottes as they seated themselves on the luxurious cushions. The girls picked up their projects while Amelia remained stationary, uncomfortable and unsure of what to do.

"Amelia Dear, " Eleanor said looking up, "Do you not have a project to work on?"

Amelia shifted in her seat as she responded hesitantly. "No, actually, I don't know how to sew."

After her Mother passed away Amelia's Father didn't go out of his way to teach her etiquette and other ladylike manors. She didn't feel bad about it either, Amelia enjoyed living life simply and speaking plainly without covering the truth with formal masks.

Mrs. Bellecotte rose up eagerly and placed herself gracefully down beside Amelia. "Oh, don't you worry, I will get you started on something nice and easy." She then motioned to the maid who stood waiting in the corner of the room. The young women quickly lifted a basket full of fragments of material as well as threads and needles and brought it over the Ladies.

Amelia's eye widened as they were lost in all the exquisite color of the small pieces of fabric. Her hands dove into the basket as her senses were delighted at the smooth cloths and the coolness of the silk on her skin. Her hand froze as she detected a subtle giggle rising from the little pile of curls that sat across from her. Thea's lips opened into a grin that was quickly covered by her hand when her mother cleared her throat. Isabelle shot Amelia a look of judgment causing the innocent young woman's cheeks to deepen in color.

"Amelia Dear," Eleanor interceded once again. "Why don't you just pick something simple to start with."

"Oh yes," Amelia mumbled as she quickly grabbed an off white square. She shifted her eyes to her lap, her gaze burning into the top of her skirt while she mentally chided herself. She was beginning to understand just how different things were in this new household and how much she stood out.

The delicate young woman was like a deer in a castle. Both were equally beautiful, the deer being graceful and timid while the castle stood stately and elegant. Their beauty both clearly known yet their manners virtually opposite.
