Benedict's P.O.V.
As much as I didn't want to be mad at Cassie, I really was. How could she possibly think I have a thing for Hallie? She's so cold and complete bitch. Listening to her talk now is so daunting and boring, but I'm hoping it might rile Cass up a bit more. Mean, I know, but when we're mad at each other like this, the sex is amazing.
Of course, I'm not doing it just for that. There have been several times where I've told her she's right and I'm wrong, but not this time. She needs to learn that she makes mistakes, too.
As Hallie's group of friends laughed at something she said, I could feel someone aggressively tapping my shoulder. I smirked because I knew it was Cass and I also knew there was a bedroom upstairs that Hallie let couples use if they felt in the mood. When I turned around though, it wasn't her. It was one of my mates from Lacrosse.
"Steven, what's up?" I asked. He laughed as he told me, "Better get a handle on your girl! She's wild, dude!" I quickly looked around until I spotted Cass. She was dancing in the middle of the room with Whitey grinding on her from behind. I don't think I have ever felt so much rage!
I pushed past Steven and everyone who was in between me and my girl. When I got a few feet away from them, I stopped in my tracks because I saw a Red Solo Cup in her hand and some red liquid sloshing around the edges. That better not be the fruit punch from the kitchen.
"Whitey, what the fuck!" I shouted as I shoved him away from Cassie. He stumbled back as he said, "Woah! What's wrong?" He was obviously drunk, but I didn't care! "What's wrong?" I angrily asked. "You're grinding on my girlfriend!"
I turned to Cassie, who was chugging from her cup. I snatched it from her and took a whiff of the inside. "Goddammit, Cassie," I growled. "You're not supposed to drink!" She patted her body as she told me with slurred words, "Can-zer f'ee." I couldn't believe this was happening!
"We're leaving," I told her, "now." I grabbed her arm, but she smacked away my hand. "I'm'aving fun!" She shouted at me. Heads were starting to turn at this point. It's a good thing we graduated, or else rumors would be flying around that school. "Act'appy, remember?" She asked me.
Shit. I did this. I shouldn't have pushed this fight, I shouldn't have turned my back on her. I'm a horrible boyfriend. "Cass, honey," I softly told her, "come with me. Come on, baby, I'm going to get us home and we'll curl up and go to sleep. We'll talk about this in the morning."
For a moment, I thought she might listen to me, but before I knew it, she grabbed her empty cup from my hand and ran into the kitchen! "Cassie, no!" I shouted as I chased after her. Before I could reach her, she already had the cup in the punch and it about to go to her lips. "Stop!" I grabbed the cup, but she yanked it back...and it spilt all over her white blouse.
Everyone stopped to watch this. Some guys were shaking their heads at me, all the girls were scoffing. Cassie, though, was the worst of all. I expected her to slap me, yell at me...but she just started crying. She was crying and it broke my heart.
"Baby...baby, I'm sorry," I told her, but I knew it meant nothing to her at the moment. She quickly pushed me aside and ran into a bathroom. I didn't know what to do, I was so stunned. I wanted to go after her, but I didn't want to ruin anything else for her. Why was I such an awful boyfriend?
When I looked around me, I could see everyone had decided this scene to be boring and went back to dancing and talking. There was one person, however, that seemed to find this amusing. I could see Hailee laughing and pointing at the bathroom Cassie went into. This angered me, but I wasn't about to start anything else.
Instead, I went over to the door. I knocked a few times before slowly entering. Cassie was standing at the sink, sloppily trying to wipe the punch off her stained shirt. "Cass," I said as I shut the door behind me, "I am so sorry. Here, let me help." I tried taking the rag from her, but she shrugged me away. I respected her wishes and backed away.
"That's not going to come out," I softly told her. "I have another shirt in the car you can wear on the way home." I stuck my hand out to her and she looked at it. For a moment, I thought I should call her parents. If I couldn't take her home, then it should be her parents.
Surprisingly, she took my hand. It wasn't very willing, but more of a she knew she had to come with me, so she had to take it. Either way, I led her out of the room and eventually out of the house. I had her stand by the door while I got her the extra shirt I had.
She was only seconds away from taking her shirt off in front of the entire neighborhood. "Cass, baby, no!" I held her shirt down, then got her into the back. I got into the driver's side and let my head fall onto the steering wheel. "Cass, I...I think I should take you to a hospital."
I could hear her movements stop. "Why?" She asked. I took a deep breath, then said, "Because you've never had alcohol, you were medically advised not to have it. I know your cancer's gone, but the doctors never actually cleared you to have any. We need to go just in case. Either that, or I'll call your parents and ask them what they think I should do."
" 'm not going. No." I sighed and let my head go back against the seat. "Fine," I told her, "I guess I'm calling your dad." I pulled out my phone and she tried to reach over and take it, but it wasn't much of an effort. She was getting tired now, I could tell.
The thought of calling her dad scared me because I wasn't sure how he was going to react to this news. I was supposed to be watching after her and I fucked up. I put the phone to my ear and closed my eyes. "Hello?" Jeffery's tired voice answered. "Hi, Jeffery, it's Ben," I said. "Sorry to wake you, um...I have a bit of a situation here with Cass."
"Well, is she alright?" He asked. I peaked around to look in the backseat. She was moaning and holding onto her stomach. Fuck. "Uh...well, she drank tonight. I didn't know, she did it when I was talking with some friends. She looks like she's in some pain at the moment. Should I take her to a hospital?" I could hear him shuffle around and whisper something to Jen. "Yeah, take her there and we'll meet you. I appreciate you calling, kid. We'll see you in a bit."
I hung up and tossed my phone in the passenger seat. "Alright," I sighed. "Hospital it is."
We got to the hospital in only a few minutes and her parents met us there before a nurse called Cassie in. I was allowed to go with her, mainly because I knew what happened and the doctor needed to know.
I didn't leaving anything out. I told them about the fight and how one of my teammates probably gave her the drink, but how she might have helped herself since she's been talking about it for a while. Cassie, in the meantime, was in and out of consciousness. The nurse had put an I.V. in her arm to keep her hydrated.
They let me stay for the remainder of the time she was there, which wasn't very long. The doctor said the cancer's been away long enough to where the alcohol shouldn't be a problem, but to still keep an eye on her. She was asleep for the majority of the visit.
Her parents took her home, but I followed. I asked her dad if it was alright I stayed with her. I think he knew how much guilt I was feeling, so he told me I could stay. She was awake enough to walk to her room with some help. Her mum helped her get into her pajamas, then left me with her in the room.
She was passed out cold. I dressed down to my boxers, then got in behind her. "Cass," I whispered in her ear, "I know you probably can't hear me, but I really am sorry. I love you so much and it kills me that you're like this because of me. All tomorrow is just going to be me trying to make today up to you. Goodnight, darling."
I kissed the back of her head, then drifted off to sleep, hoping tomorrow would be better.
