3 Months Later
"You have your registration packets?"
"Yes, mom."
"What about your dorm room number? And key?"
"Mom, yes, I have everything I need."
"...What about some oxygen tanks, just in case—."
I heavily sighed and told mom, "No, I don't because I won't need it." Dad came over just as she was about to ask me another question. "Jen, that's enough," he told her. "She's not that far from home, so if she needs anything, we'll be back in a jiff. Right, kiddo?"
I gave him a smile and told him, "Right. Besides, I have Lee and Aaron." Mom gave me a sympathetic look. It's the same looks she's been giving me for the past two months and I hated it. "You know," she said, "I'm sure if you ask Ben, he'll—."
Dad immediately put a stop to her by saying, "I think that's enough. Come on, we're cramping her style. Call us if you need anything, kiddo." I hugged my parents and told them goodbye before making my way up to my new school and new home for the next four years.
I can't believe I made it to college!
Just as I was about to enter one of the dorm buildings, I could hear my name being called. I quickly turned and saw Lee and Aaron running towards me! "We made it!" Aaron screamed before tackling me in a hug. Lee was right behind him and I couldn't help but laugh.
"Hey, listen," Aaron said as he pulled back, "I tried to get a roommate change, but since it was already paid for, I couldn't..." I put my hand up to stop him. "It's fine," I told him. "It's not like we weren't going to run into each other nearly everyday anyways." Aaron nodded, then Lee said, "Well, let's go get settled."
Lee and I made our way to our room, while Aaron went to his literally across the hall. This was going to be tough start, but I was determined to get through it as maturely as possible.
"So...have you spoken to him?" Lee shyly asked me as we unpacked. I simply shook my head. I didn't like talking about it, even now. It was too painful and I couldn't show that. Not now, anyways. We finished unpacking as much as we could before we were notified about orientation starting in the hall.
"Um...I think I'm going to stay here," I told Lee. "Fill me in on everything later." She looked at me oddly, but I just really didn't want to run into him. Not yet. I think she knew that because she didn't ask any questions, just gave me a nod and left.
Once I was alone, I sat down on my bed tried to shake my thoughts from my head. I love him. I still do, but I warned him. I told him that if he used me one more time, we were done. It didn't even take him a month to do it again. He begged and pleaded for me not to do it, but I didn't have a choice.
Breaking up with Ben was the hardest thing I have ever had to do. Yes, that includes fighting cancer.
"I need some air," I told myself. Of course, after grabbing my coat and dorm key, the moment I open the door...I see him. He's unpacking in his and Aaron's room. Obviously, he decided to forgo the orientation, as well. I tried to shut the door before he could see me, but those damned blue eyes caught mine before I could.
He opened his mouth to say something, but I quickly shut my door and turned to lock it. My hands were shaking so bad, I dropped the damn thing! Just as I was about to pick it up, a large hand grabbed it. "Ben, I don't—."
I stopped myself because when I looked up...it wasn't Ben. It was a strikingly handsome man and I mean he was a man. "In a rush?" He asked, a smooth Irish accent coming from his lips. I opened my mouth to say something, but words couldn't seem to come out. I was flustered as all hell!
