Ten Years Shadow

Your shadow is my kingdom;
It's the place I've roamed forever,
Reining like a queen with no crown;
It became familiar and predictable,
Even when I was so powerful,
Even when I was so strong,
Even when I was so bright;
Alas, your shadow is still my kingdom
And I find myself forced to be there every time;
But I long for jewels and sunlight,
Something I've never really known;
Even with my skills,
Even with my growth,
Even with my achievements;
It seems your shadow will be my forever home;
Behind your red, fiery glow;
Maybe someday I'll grow taller than your fire,
Or maybe your fire will diminish to embers,
Or your shadow will shrink when the spotlight shifts,
To someone like me:
A queen with no crown;
But more than anything
I hope someday you'll turn to face your shadow
And find it missing;
Because your shadow and I
Decided to let go.
