"Wait."

"What?" I sighed, rolling my eyes and looking up at Michael from where I lay on his lap.

"So his mom fucked the principal?"

"What the hell are you talking about?" I scrunched my eyebrows glancing at the credits for Forrest Gump as the rolled on Michael's TV.

"In the beginning!" Michael waved his hands as if trying to coax me to catch on. "Forrest couldn't get into that school, but then his mom slept with the principal, didn't she? That's how he got in, right?"

"You have got to be kidding me."

"What?"

"We just spent two hours watching that movie, and that's all you wanna know?"

"Umm...yes?"

"Ugh, you're such a boy!" I laughed grabbing a pillow off the floor and hitting him in the face.

"Agh-hey!" Michael giggled, swatting the pillow away and smiling down at me. "What was that for?"

"You're so stupid!" I shook my head, but I couldn't hide the smile on my face. Instead, I just reached up and pinched his cheeks.

"Stop that!" He snorted and pulled away.

"Make me." I challenged.

"Alright." Suddenly Michael swept me up, tossing me over his shoulder. A great number of obscenities spewed from my mouth as I pounded on his back, demanding to be put down. "Nope!"

"Michael!" I squeaked, my voice wavering as he bounded around his apartment. My head would narrowly miss couches, corners, counters and the like. It scared the hell out of me, but Michael apparently knew what he was doing when he yelled, "Oops!" without even glancing back.

"Michael Gordon Clifford, I swear I won't ever read books with you, play video games, or help you cook pizza ever again if you don't put me down!"

"Don't use my middle name!" Michael whined, but he came to a halt, coincidentally right in front of the apartment door. He gently set me back on my feet. "Get your shoes on."

"Oh, so you can order me around now?" I raised an eyebrow as I slipped my sandals on. "Where are we going?"

"Out." Michael said with a smile as he grabbed my-his- jacket off the counter and tossed it to me, and opened the door, but not before he looked me up and down and noted, "People are gonna think we're hooking up."

"What?" I asked, then blushed as I looked down and realized I was wearing not only his jacket, but one of his tanks, even though it was way too big on me. He'd also given me some of his bracelets, so either we were related and had an oddly close bond, or well, what he said. "Oh."

Michael smirked at my rosy complexion and opened the door wider, waving me through. I hurried by, keeping my head down. I heard the door click shut softly behind me but before I could ask Michael where we were going, he grabbed my hand and started pulling me away, towards the staircase, but instead of going down, he led me up.

"Michael-"

"Using the front door is so boring."

"Wait, what?" I raised my eyebrows as I considered the idea that Michael was taking me up to the roof. But people leave through the front door to go places, and he wouldn't have mentioned it if we weren't going somewhere. But more importantly, we weren't going to get there by leaving through the front door. "We're getting off the roof?"

"No. We're getting off the fire escapes. And it just so happens that one fire escape is accessible from the roof."

"What?" I panted, leaning against the rail and clutching my side. We were practically running up the stairs and my body was still too weak for physical exertion.
