"lily?"

"hi." lily evans whispered in james' ear with a drunken giggle.

"uh... is there a specific reason you pulled me into the quilt cupboard?" james asked, utterly confused as to why lily had yanked him into a broom closet quicker than he could say 'quidditch.'

"because i miss my jamesie..." lily pouted as she walked her fingers up james' chest and looked into his eyes.

"wha- lily, okay. you're drunk. i think you should head to bed." james answered, eyebrows furrowed in concern.

"i'll go to bed if you come with me." the red head spoke, much to james' surprise.

"lily, you know i'm with rose, right?" james couldn't believe lily was acting like this. surely lily cared enough about her sister to know that the girl was in a relationship with james.

"pshhh... i'm not daft, james... i know you're only with her to make me jealous! don't worry, it worked." lily spoke as she wrapped her arms around james' neck, pulling him down to her height as she moved to capture his lips in a kiss.

james' eyes were wide with shock, then he realised what lily was trying to accomplish and hastily pulled her arms from his neck and pushed her away as he stood back at his full height.

"lily, i'm sorry, but i certainly am not with rose to make you jealous. what kind of sick game would that be? i'm over you, lily. i love rose. merlin, i love rose so bloody much. i spent years pining after you, wasting my time and not giving anyone else a second glance. i'm sorry, but you missed your chance lily. i was nothing but nice to you and all you did was put me down and reject me." james angrily spoke. he was angry at lily. he had spent so many years trying to get her to like him the way he liked her, but she didn't want to see how great of a person he was. she turned a blind eye to his nice gestures. and now that she saw how he was as a boyfriend; sweet, kind, and caring, she wanted him.

but she couldn't have him. simply because james potter belonged completely to rose evans.

"james... come on..." lily began moving closer to james again, placing her hands on his arms before continuing, "i know you still want me."

but the poor girl couldn't have been more wrong.

james didn't want lily evans anymore. he had who he wanted.

and he wasn't letting her go anytime soon.

"no, lily. i don't," the boy's messy black hair shook with his head, "and i can't believe how incredibly selfish you could be to try and pull rose and i apart. drunk or not you know exactly what you're trying to do. but it's not going to work lily."

lily ignored james and tried to kiss him once more. she wanted james, and she always gets what she wants.

moving his head away from lily's, james said, "no, lily, stop it! it's over, okay? i love rose. not you. now go to bed so you can sober up. you're better than this lily. i know you are." he then pushed lily off of him and walked out of the closet.

fed up with everything, james decided remus could watch over the party himself since the werewolf didn't like to drink very much.

as james topped the staircase, he paused. running his hands over his face and letting out an exasperated sigh, he entered his dorm. shuffling over to his trunk for pyjamas, he noticed it was already open, but he didn't leave it like that.

james' hazel eyes traveled up his four-poster bed, and saw rose; curled into his Scarlett quidditch jumper that read 'potter' across the back in golden-yellow, the clothes she wore to the party lay discarded on the floor beside her shoes. james fondly smiled at the fact that the jumper was far too large for her petite figure.

after james had changed into his pyjamas, he crawled into the bed, careful not to wake rose as he pulled her closer to him, tiredly wrapping his arm around the girl's waist as she nuzzled her head into his neck. james placed his chin upon her head after pressing a kiss to her strawberry blonde hair.

"i love you, rose evans." the messy haired boy spoke before he closed his eyes and slept peacefully with rose in his arms.
