"Looks like Canary will be alright." Quack said We all surrounded Canary in his bed,
"Thanks, guys," He said and turned to me "And thank you, Alexi. I might have been a goner out there. "
"You are lucky brother, The doctors checked you. No wounds no radiation poisoning and your eardrums haven't been blown open." Poet said
"It must be the Lord's Work," Canary told us. Poet then hands Canary a tin bottle containing cheap mushroom vodka. He takes a big sip even if the damn thing had powerful fumes
"That's some good shit!" He said.
He was now given permission to leave the hospital. Our squad had to be left behind as the push towards the Vatican continues meanwhile the large VAF force we encountered was repelled by our troops. Now we are coming closer and closer to their capital. Where the Pope is, They are being attacked in all three fonts. The Pope has declared that everyone must contribute to the fight. Even children.
"Come let's get some food at the chow hall," I said and extended my hand to Canary.
"Sure hero boy!" He reached for my hand but he fell from his bed.
"Was the Vodka too strong?!" Poet taunted while the rest of us laugh.
"Come on man, You can't bite the dust just yet hahaha!" I cheered him up and helped him.
"S-Something isn't right. I-I can't see straight." He explained.
"W-What did you give him Poet?!" I asked her.
"That's normal Vodka I swear! I have been drinking the same thing and nothing like this has happened to me!" She answered
Canary attempts to stand up again, But he falls again.
We had him checked by the doctor.
Apparently, He was indeed injured in his ear.
He ruptured a part of his inner ear that has destroyed his perception of balance. Even while sitting down he was falling, Walking has become a herculean task as he kept falling over. We asked if there was any way to fix him, Sadly...There isn't. Canary was severely depressed.
Because of that Canary was forced to retire as he can be a liability to the squad. It was sad seeing him get sent away. He was one of the first people to welcome me into the NUAF.
There was no family waiting for him too...I hope he can find work...Who am I kidding?
He is destined for destitute. Nobody will accept him on work, He has nobody to turn to. His pension is not enough for him. I have the feeling he will go homeless and live the rest of his life in the streets.
I'm sorry Timokha Canary.
After that, the time has come.
Our cause is just and our soldiers stand ready.
The battle for their capital has already begun, In fact, while we were being transported there the front has moved forward for a few kilometers. I looked outside the truck to see what has changed. The muddy ground has hardened and when this happens the NUAF quickly resupplies their soldiers with fresh replacements, food, and ammunition.
The outskirts were untouched. The NUAF being a force of good have given these people electricity even if it is inconsistent and blackouts are frequent. Despite there being a war the citizens appear as nothing has happened.
But the closer and closer we moved to the front we saw the devastation. Buildings are torn up to hell. The enemy Anti-Tank guns have been left behind they can't be recovered yet since they are buried in waist-high mud.
