I woke up in my bed to a gray fetching me for dinner. I felt a little dizzy and disoriented still. I don't remember going to my bed after falling asleep in Langdon's office. I don't know what happened, how I got so tired so quickly, or how I got to my room. I do recall that the moment his lips slightly grazed mine I became overwhelmingly tired, like I was cursed. I did, however, appreciate the sleep. Its been rough to ever since Langdon arrived. Excessive fear was depriving me of a good nights rest. I can't even sleep anymore because of the worry of being left here for dead.
I sat down next to Coco and Emily at the table, an ever shrinking cube of gelatin placed before me. I try to make mine last as long as I can, but it is finished before I realize. I then retreat back to my room with a poetry book from the library to enjoy some time away from the group. The neutral colors of my chamber helped draw my eye to the bright red object on my bedside table. An apple.
Upon inspection the fruit was perfect. No bruising, no rotting, perfectly untouched. Beside it was a note reading 'Feed your temptation, Miss (L/N) - L' in jet black ink on a red slip of paper. I immediately set the fruit down and run out of the room and down the hall. I knock on Langdon's door.
I hear his shoes on the wooden floor slowly grow louder as he approaches the entryway to his room. With a click the door opens.
"I'm so sorry to disturb you Mr. Langdon, but-"
"Its fine, my Angel, come in" he says soothingly, welcoming me into his room. He gestures for me to sit down on the edge of the bed and he takes a seat at his desk. "Are you a poet?" He asks, referring to the book. I nod and smile. "Well I'd love to hear some, but for now, Love, I assume you're here to talk about the gift I left to you?" He says, continuing to work from his computer.
"Um, yes it is about that sir" I nod. "I felt wrong eating it all myself and not giving some to the other members of the outpost. They deserve it just as much as me, sir." He looks up from the screen.
"Well now, I disagree. You're something special, Miss (Y/N). I've got my eye on you."
"I appreciate it but-"
"Think of it as your acceptance gift," he smiles, "I'm just dying to have you accompany me to The Sanctuary." I look at him in shock. "You made it darling. You have been selected to join the last remaining humans on earth. That is, if you follow my rules." I nod my head
"Of course, Mr. Langdon"
"Please, call me Michael when we're in private." I nod my head and smile, showing that I understood. "Stay here, I'll be right back," he says, walking out of the room. A few moments later he returns, a glimmer of red in his hand. He reaches out and places the apple in my hand. "Now eat."
"Can I at least give some to t-"
"Eat," he says in a more commanding voice.
I follow his instruction and bit into the sweet flesh of the fruit. The juices blessed my tongue and trickled down my chin. The flavor was better than I could have dreamed and the fruit itself was filling. After I had finished, Michael took the core from my hand and placed it in a bin next to his desk.
"Now. Wasn't that just absolutely divine?" He smirks. "If you just give in to greed, I think you would be so much more happy."
"No... I don't want to..." I mumble as I stand up to leave. I only get two steps in before the room starts to spin. I begin to stumble around but fall to the ground, yet for some reason never hit it. I open my eyes to find Michael's arms keeping me up. He lies me down on his bed and places the covers over me, seeing as I didn't have the energy to do so.
"Of course you don't. Sleep now, my angel" he grins slightly, lifting his hand. After he snaps, the world goes dark and I fall asleep.
