"Now, (Y/N), we're going to try something a little more difficult," Zoe says, sitting across from me at the table.
"And what is that?" I ask. She spills a cup of pebbles that resemble dull jewels onto the table top.
"Divination, the ability to obtain direct knowledge without witnessing something firsthand. Now theres different ways to go about this, the presence of a person, focusing on specific tasks, and looking for information can trigger this ability. Today, though, we are going to try to do this using touch," she explains. "I've hidden an earring belonging to the previous supreme, Fiona Goode, somewhere in this house. Touch the stones, and tell me where the item is."
I take a deep breath in, feeling the cool rocks on my palms. On my exhale a fuzzy image of something rectangular and mostly white, presumably furniture, appears. For gods sake this whole place is filled to the brim with white furniture.
"What do you see?" I hear Zoe ask.
"A furniture piece. Its square, and white. But the image is too fuzzy to tell you which one." I shake my head, my eyes remaining closed. "Wait, no," I say, becoming aware of the dark box atop the rectangle. "I see a dark box. I- I don't know what it is, Zoe."
"Alright then, you're on the right track. Why don't we take a break for now?" she asks me, and I agree. I begin to walk to my room to practice drawing when Cordelia stops me.
"Oh, there you are (Y/N). I have a favor to ask you," she says.
"Of course. Anything, Ms. Cordelia," I nod, eager to accept her task.
"Its silly, and honestly easy for a witch of your magnitude. Would you do me a favor and grow some flowers out in front of the house? Nothing too extravagant, but the yard looks a little dull." I smile.
"Of course, anything in mind?"
"Large, white roses along the house. I know they are your favorite," she smiles. I immediately begin on the assignment. I run out of the front door and onto the sidewalk, planning on where I will place each plant. I nearly jump out of my skin when I hear the voice next to me.
"(Y/N)!" it exclaims. I turn to see a smiling Michael. "What are you doing?" he asks me.
"Oh, Cordelia asked me to grow some roses along the houses," I tell him, shifting my eyes back to the house. "You're welcome to stick around while I do, though."
"I will" he agrees. He begins to follow me as I walk towards a patch of grass. "So," he starts as I kneel down, "Have the witches taught you anything new?" Green sprouts up from the earth. I let out a sigh.
"They're trying. I'm having trouble with Divination."
"Oh, Darling, a being of your power should have no problem with that. Those witches might need a little help teaching you. Here," he says, sitting down next to me. "Take my hand." I do as he says, not really knowing what to expect. "Tell me my best memory." The scene is bright, but everything is so hazy that I can't make it out.
"Its- its too blurry Michael. I can't see it," I tell him.
"Focus, (Y/N). Take a deep breath," he instructs. "Good, now focus on first the colors, then shapes, then details." The scene begins to come together nicely.
"Oh, I'm starting to see it. I see a girl with her head on your shoulder, on a blanket, and a book of... love poetry." I feel myself smile and I open my eyes. "I'm your best memory?"
"What? No! My best memory is of Mead taking me in," he states, his face flushing a light pink. "You... you weren't supposed to see that one."
"Well I did. What are you going to do about it?" I ask playfully. I see his smirk right before he leans in for a kiss. His eyes widen when I disappear. I materialize across the yard and let out a giggle. "(Y/N)!" he groans. "Get over here."
"You have to catch me!" I laugh, vanishing from his sight. I appear in the backyard next to the wall of the building. My heart rate increases as I wait for Michael to arrive, knowing that it could be any second. I feel a hand on my shoulder and I move to the other side of the yard, seeing that Michael had found me.
"Come on, (Y/N)! I found you fair and square!" he pouts.
"But you didn't catch me, did you?" I call out before putting myself on the hill where I feel like I just was. I sit down under the tree where we were before, looking out at the setting sun. The sky was painted in the warmest values of red in pink with a mix of purple. I couldn't help but to stop and watch it.
"Aha! I knew I'd find you here!" Michael bellows in a proud manner. He follows my gaze to the sunset that I was so mesmerized by. "Oh, thats beautiful," he says, sitting down in the grass next to me. Eventually, his arms find his way around me and his chin rests on the top of my head. He then earns a grin when he places a gentle kiss on my cheek.
Everything feels right. Especially being here with him.
