They slept with their fingers intertwined.
Her head resting on his chest,
Long, brown hair splayed all over.
She watched as the sunlight peeked through the curtains
And waited till it was time to wake him up from his sweet slumber.
Finally, the rays had met her eyes.
So quickly, she shifted and turned her head to look at him.
Such gorgeous face, she thought.
If you were my god, I'd make sure to worship you everyday.
She brought herself closer to plant a soft kiss on his slightly parted lips.
"Good morning, love. Gising ka na," she said
With a voice quite husky and lazy but soft,
And a smile on her lips, so gentle and warm.
"Love...gising na..." she tried again.
But he didn't move or shift.
Didn't moan or react one bit.
"Love..." Once again, she kissed.
Then laid back on his chest.
"Sige na nga. Five minutes pa," she said.
She tucked in closer to feel his heartbeat----
One of the many little things she enjoyed doing when he was asleep,
Besides stroking his hair and touching his face,
Besides giving him feather light kisses and pulling him to a tight embrace,
Besides caressing his cheek and tracing his angular jaw,
Besides tracing his reddish lips and his nose bridge.
"Hmmm..." she snuggled closer.
And closer.
But...
No heartbeat.
I must be in the wrong place, she thought to herself.
But she realized that she knew his body so well,
If his heartbeats were butterflies,
She'd be able to catch all of it.
But the heartbeat...
Where is it?
Slowly, she raises herself to have a look at him.
"Love..." she called.
"Wake up, please."
Still, he made no movement,
And showed no sign
That he could hear her voice
Or feel her kiss.
"Love naman e," she started to shake his left shoulder.
"Gising ka na, love," she now pleaded.
She lifted her hands, now cold, to his face,
In search of warmth,
Same thing when she pulls for an embrace.
But warmth, she found none.
And suddenly, her heart was beating like a drum.
Irregular and pacing.
Fast and loud.
Her chest, now heavy and hurting.
