Alpha and omega. Two opposites, but two opposites which weighed on each other perfectly. Without one, there couldn't be another.  The harmony of humanity was balanced on these two sub-genders. Women were omegas and were meant to have and take care of children and the family. Meanwhile alphas were men, who were supposed to be strong and protect. It was a good system, it worked and had kept them safe for a long time.

That was until a few decades ago, when new species suddenly started crawling their way into society.
The first new kind of sub-gender to make its appearance was betas. A gender that seemed to be a mix between the two already existing ones. They were strong compared to your average omega, but were nowhere near being at the same level as an alpha. The female betas were able to give birth, they had heats, but they were far from as intense as those that omegas would experience. When the first beta came into the world everything had been a big chaos. It came as a shock to everyone when a small three year old girl had traits of both alpha and omega.

Even more uproar happened when the first female alpha was born. The parents who had birthed the poor baby were in shock. All the feminine traits were there, there was no denying that she was a girl, but how could a small petite girl be a strong alpha?
Though born with the female organ, the alphas still couldn't get pregnant, neither could they make someone pregnant. Without the newly founded race being able to reproduce, the government saw no reason as to why they would keep the child, and killed it. Painfully slitting the child's throat.

After a few years, where a lot of female alpha lives had gone lost, the amount of births of the race a year had increased rapidly. So rapidly, in fact, that the government had to find new solutions that wouldn't include killing them all off. Luckily, a blessed soul came to the conclusion that female alphas were still alphas, and were just as strong as the male ones. With this conclusion, the government decided that they would place all of them in the army. An idea that would increase the security And military forces and would also refrain from killing as many children.

The case that caused the most social unrest though, was when the first male omega presented. A male who could bear children? It was absurd. Everyone thought it sounded like a bad joke when the news was released. The government had no logical explanation to give, they simply waved it off as a one of a kind situation, a mistake. In later years, that was exactly what the race was treated as, a mistake. It was even believed for a rather long time that the case wouldn't repeat itself, that all it ever had been was in just that. However, during another fearful moment, a new male omega was presented.

Even these more recent events were something that could be read about in history books. Yet even though time had advanced, the so-called "original" sub-genders were still valued greatly in society. The male alpha and the female omega. The way it was supposed to be. Had always been.

Still, society had no choice, but to accept the new races into their world and thus, they could no longer base everything on what was favored.

Luckily, humans have a great quality called adaptation. And slowly, but surely people adapted to the changes, and the different sub-genders were welcomed, and accepted as a normal everyday part of society.

Unfortunately the rarer the kind, the fewer people saw of them, and the less they adapted to them. While omegas were still the rarest out of the different sub-genders, they had always been consistent. They had always been accepeted. The same thing couldn't be said for the unfortunate male omegas though.  Less than 5% of all omegas were born male. While another 10%  born omega at all.

One would think that being so rare would make people want to protect them, and appreciate them when they had them, but society thought differently. They still looked upon the male omegas as mistakes, creatures that were a curse to their entire race. And what did it help that the poor souls were taken away from their home and family, to go to an omega school, where they would learn to be good housewives? As soon as someone presented, they would be placed in one of the schools assigned to their newfound sub gender to learn about themselves and their duties to society. Parents had no choice other than sending their children off to be kept safe in the guards' and teachers' keepable hands, until they could finally go out in the world at the age of sixteen. The only reason why they let them leave in the first place was probably to let the omegas that hadn't been sold to a mate during their stay, get even the slightest chance to get a mate before their first needing would hit.
