(Hiccup's POV)
I held my breath as I stretched out my hand. After about thirty seconds, I felt a cold snout brush my hand. I relaxed and turn around. She jolted back as she snorted and ran away to the other side of the arena, shaking her head. I stood there in shock, I gained her trust. I felt something nudge my arm and looked down to see Toothless. I smiled.
"She sure is something, isn't she bud." He rumbled in reply as he licked his jaws. I turned back around and scanned her drawings. I only then noticed she had written two names under each dragon. "Mom! Come here!" I shouted, excited at the prospect of what she gave us.
"What is it son?" Mom asked as she walked in.
"Come look at this." I shouted. Astrid followed my mom in. She was still upset about the fight between Stormfly and the Star Fury, which I would work out later. "Look at how well detailed this is. I mean, she could be human the way she draws and writes."
"Hmmm." My mom narrowed her eyes as she looked at the drawings.
"And look," I continued in excitement. "She wrote names like Seawing, Icewing, Sandwing, Rainwing, Mudwing, Skywing, and..." I trailed off as I reached the picture of the dragon with scales detailed under her wings and by her eyes...like the Star Fury.
It's her, she transformed somehow. I probably looked horrified.
"Nightwing." I breathe. I moved past it to read the names. "The names of the dragons are impressive too. Turtle for the Seawing, Winter for the Icewing, Qibli for the Sandwing, Kinkajou for the Rainwing, Umber for the Mudwing, Carnelian for the Skywing, and Moon for the Nightwing."
"Hiccup." Astrid said suddenly, sounding shocked and surprised, and I knew she had realized what I had. "The Nightwing-." I cut her off.
"I know. It's the Star Fury in a different form, her 'true form'. Her Nightwing form. Her name is Moon, so that solves what we were going to call her." I gave a small laugh and looked over at the pouting dragon in the shadows. I looked down, feeling ashamed. "I don't think this is right mom. She clearly misses her friends. Perhaps we can follow her and see her world for ourselves. I know she's hurt, but I think she lives in a world that's more dangerous than ours. I mean look as these dragons. They're more dangerous than we realize, I think. I think it may be time to let her go." Mom tilted her head and nodded.
"Whatever you think is right, son." She advised gently
"Toothless?" Toothless lowered his head, which answered that question. I walked over to Moon. "Ohhh." I cooed softly to let her know I'm there. She turned around and I flinched in surprise when I saw her eyes were full of tears. She hissed fiercely and I took a step back, respecting her space. She dropped onto all fours and lifted her snout to my hand. I rubbed it gently as I furrowed my brows. Her snout was a lot warmer, which concerned me. "Mom? Fishlegs? Come here and feel her snout." I called, concerned.
Her wound could have gotten infected. I thought.
"Do you think that is a good idea?" Mom asked while Fishlegs trotted through the gate before shutting it. He looked more than excited to touch Moon while she was awake and aware.
"I need to know if she's sick, or just under stress." I said as the two approached.
I just hope she'll let them do their job.
(Moon's POV)
Squeak, squeak, SQUEAK! All these scavengers ever do is squeak. I noticed the plump one walking over slowly with Loud-Squeak's possible mother. I narrowed my eyes and hissed angrily and in fear.
"Hey." I looked up to see the big brown and red-grey dragon leaning over my part of the cage where I felt safer. "If you hurt either of them, you'll have to answer to us. Got it?" The grey-red dragon barked.
"Cloudjumper, calm down. I'm Meatlug. You won't hurt them, will you?" 'Meatlug' said softly as she blinked her yellow eyes.
"No. Unless they hurt me." I growled
"They would never do that. Those two out of the three people are the least likely to hurt a dragon. Hiccup is first of course." Meatlug said softly.
What kind of a name is Hiccup?
"The plump one is Fishlegs and the woman is Valka."
Fishlegs? Valka? Valka sounds like a Skywing name, but Fishlegs. I feel bad for the Seawing that's named that.
"Your name is Moon, correct?" I nodded to Meatlug's inquiry. I heard a soft whistle and looked back down and toward the two approaching scavengers'. Hiccup was standing off to the side. I backed away and stopped when I hit a wall.
Valka motioned for Fishlegs to stay back and he nodded. She slowly walked up, her hands where I could see them. I felt entranced by her eyes as she moved her head back and forth like a snake. I felt her hand rub my cheek and it hit my silver scale. I was immediately flashed by visions, thoughts, and memories of fire, being taken, and staying away. I huffed in surprise.
When her hand slid off the scale the visions slowed and I was able to stop them. She slid her hand partway down my neck as she maintained eye contact and she suddenly pinched a spot. I yelped in surprise but I collapsed on my side in relaxation, not caring about anything. I felt so chill as Valka continued to rub her hand down my throat and coo softly. I felt a larger hand touch my nose soon after but I didn't care. The belly rub Valka was giving me was amazing. Valka squeaked at Hiccup and he squeaked loudly. More scavengers came in and I twitched my ear but don't care about them. I felt chills run down my spine and I cooed softly in happiness as the other scavengers rub my back, wings and tail.
I could do this for ages. They didn't want to go on forever because they suddenly stopped. I slowly snapped out of my delirious state and I realized I was surrounded by humans inside and dragons outside. Why did I let them distract me?! A gentle squeak and the scavengers turned toward Fishlegs. He looked sad for some reason.
(Hiccup's POV)
"Hey guys come on! We can all pet her now." I shouted at them. The gang rushed in and gently pet Moon on her tail, wings, and back as Fishlegs gently rubbed her face. She cooed softly and looked so peaceful. I smiled and turned to ask Fishlegs if she was okay. His sad face stared back. The riders stopped. "Fishlegs?" I prompted gently.
"She's clearly under a lot of stress. She misses her family and friends." Moon sighed as if agreeing.
"Well I guess there is only one thing we can do." I gently stepped up to Moon. "Do you want to go free?" I asked softly.
(Moon's POV)
Hiccup turned to me and squeaked something like 'you' and 'go'. I shook my head sadly, not understanding. Fishlegs squeaked at Hiccup and Hiccup frowned. He squeaked back in reply and Toothless trotted over. Hiccup looked into Toothless' eyes and stared. Then Toothless nodded, breaking the contact and walked over to me.
"They want to know if you want to go free." I raised my eyes in surprise.
"Yes, of course I do!" Toothless looked sad at that and nodded at Hiccup, smiling softly. Hiccup looked at Toothless and ran over to the gate. He opened it and the other scavengers stepped back. He gestured me out, and I dipped my head at the other dragons. They all looked profoundly sad, especially Stormfly, which confused me.
We fought, but she is still sad to see me go? I walked through the gate, and on my way out, I head-bumped Hiccup gently.
"Yes I'll miss you too." He said.
Wait. I just understood scavenger. I smiled and roared into his face. Winter will be so excited. I spread my wings in happiness. "I'm free, look at me." I blurted. I shot over the ocean at the same speed I used to fly away from them at first. Moments later, I heard seven pairs of wings flapping after me. I rocketed forward to the spot where I came out of the tunnel. Wait! I don't see the stick! I saw an island in the distance ringed with torches and rock. Maybe it landed there. I flapped towards it, eager to get home. I shook my head when Toothless protested from behind me.
"Stop Moon! That place is dangerous!" He shouted. I flapped towards it, used to risks. I landed with a thump in a dark forest.
Dragon. Unusual. Usually no dragon comes to my island. Not any island close to it in fact. The thought in my head was cold and sharp.
"Did you hear that? Sounded like a dragon. Move men!" I heard in the distance.
Scavengers! I narrowed my eyes as a man with claw scars running down his neck stalked out of the trees with multiple other scavengers. They were all armed with swords, bows and arrows. The man with the claw marks gasped when he saw me and turned to the red-armored one next to him.
"A new dragon, one to use against Hiccup." He whispered. I hissed in anger as the red-armored one nodded.
This man wants to use me against Hiccup! I quickly scanned the area for my stick and I snarled in rage when I saw it next to his foot. I could tell it was mine from the talon-marks on it.
A stick? Maybe this dragon had a weird obsession over sticks. I refrained from snorting or rolling my eyes. Make a move dragon, and you'll get shot by dragon root arrows. I heard his thought and tensed. They do as well. I lowered my head, pretending to submit to them. I backed away slowly.
"Ready your weapons men, but do not kill. I repeat do not kill." The red-armored one ordered. I bared my teeth when all the scavengers pointed their arrows at me. I growled.
"Ready men. Fire!" The one with scars yelled. I ducked and twisted as I hissed furiously. I dove for the stick. I snatched it in my claws.
3, 2, 1. Now! I roared in anger when someone jumped on my back and grabbed my ear flaps. I twisted and rolled over onto my back, exposing my stomach but hearing grunts as rolled over. The 'someone' let go and I flipped over right side up and took off with the stick in my claws. I felt ten pricks in my tail and I hissed but continue flapping. I flapped over to the spot where I came out of the tunnel and look around. I decided to fly high for a few moments. I felt someone grab my tail as I was sucked into the tunnel with a bright flash of light.
(Hiccup's POV)
Moon head-bumped me on the way out and I replied in amusement.
"Yes I'll miss you to." She looked shocked for a moment. Then she smiled and roared into my face. She spread her wings and howled as she took off. "Gang mount up. We're following her." Everybody mounted their dragons and all seven of us follow her as she blasted over the ocean. She slowed as she looked around for something. I felt nervous when I noticed Viggo's island about a mile off. Unfortunately, Moon saw it as well and flew towards it. Toothless roared and Moon shook her head. She disappeared into the trees and Astrid flew up next to me. I flew closer to the island.
"Hiccup." She panted. "Hiccup, she'll get caught." I looked down when I heard a lot of roaring and snarling down below. I heard Viggo's voice and felt chills run down my spine.
"Ready men. Fire!" I heard another angry roar and Moon was suddenly there, flying for the clouds with a stick in her claws.
A stick? She got shot with ten arrows, but she ignored it and kept flying. I did a double-take in surprise. Must be immune, just like Grockles. I noticed her vanished into the clouds and we quickly followed.
"Toothless, grab her tail. Riders, grab each others tails!" I shouted. Toothless grabbed Moon's tail with his front paws and I looked behind me. The dragons had grabbed each others tails. We were suddenly shot forward with a blast of light into a tunnel.
(Viggo's POV)
I looked up from looking down on my men when I heard a thump.
Dragon. Unusual. Usually no dragon comes to my island. Not any island close to it in fact.
"Did you hear that?" I asked Krogan, who nodded. "That was a dragon. Move men!" I led my men and Krogan out of the trees at a running pace. I stopped and gasped in surprise when I saw a Night Fury, but this one different. She was female, for one thing, and had silver scales by her eyes and under her wings. I turned to Krogan, who was probably already coming up with a use for her. "A new dragon, one to use against Hiccup." I whispered. She hissed in anger. She rapidly scanned the area, like she was looking for something. She snarled in rage when her eyes landed next to my foot. I looked down and saw a stick with talon marks on it.
A stick? Maybe this dragon has a weird obsession over sticks. Make a move dragon, and you'll get shot by dragon root arrows. She tensed and so do the men. Then she did the most un-dragon-like thing in the history of dragons. She lowered her head in submission as she backed away slowly.
"Ready your weapons men, but do not kill. I repeat do not kill." Krogan ordered. She bared her teeth and growled as the Hunters pointed their weapons at her.
"Ready men. Fire!" I ordered. She ducked low under the arrows, and twisted when the spears were thrown. She hissed and dove for the stick. An idea suddenly sparked in my head and I tensed. She grabbed it in her claws and I counted down.
3, 2, 1. Now! I leapt onto her back and grabbed her ears in my rough hands. She twisted and I was crushed under her. I grunted in surprise and let go of her ears. She flipped right side up and took off with the stick in her claws. Twenty Hunters fire arrows and only ten hit her tail. She hissed but kept flying. That is... surprising. Only Grockles are immune to dragon root arrows. That could be useful if I'm going to catch one of those dragons for myself. I narrowed my eyes as she flapped into the clouds. I turned to Krogan.
"We need to find that dragon and catch her. Then we will use her to destroy the dragon riders." I said, my voice strong.
"She appears to like them." He replied as he gazed out over the ocean. I turned and saw the Riders following her up into the clouds. Either she didn't notice or didn't care. There was a sudden bright flash of light. The Hunters', including Krogan and I, shook our heads, trying to clear the spots that flashed in front of our eyes.
"I believe." I said, determined in every right. "That we have a new dragon on our hands. One that is magic. One we need to catch. And we should call it Silver Death."
