(Toothless' POV)
I swooped and dived into the trees, following Clay. He landed with a big thump and we landed with smaller ones. Hiccup tensed as the huge dragon turned to face us.
"I'm Toothless." I said hesitantly, trying to start a friendly conversation with Clay.
"I'm Clay." He replied. "Who are your friends and why are you named Toothless? You had teeth just now." His warm brown eyes were wide and curious. He seemed kind in his questions, not at all rude. I smiled and opened my mouth wide, showing my teeth. I retracted my teeth and Clay gasped. "That's really cool."
"Stormfly." I called. "Come here. And no, he won't eat you." I added, seeing her face. She slowly walked forward and Astrid clutched her neck, fear-scent flooding from both of them, and Astrid's ax was lowered. "This is Stormfly. Stormfly, please introduce yourself and your rider."
"My name is Stormfly. I'm a Deadly Natter. My rider is Astrid and she is very warrior-like, and please don't eat her. We have heard stories of your dragons eating humans. Is this true?"
"Some of us do, but I don't." Clay said, looking uncomfortable. "Hey! Peril!" He waved with his wing to a copper scaled dragon who had this expression of 'nobody can see me, especially Clay'. The dragon turned around and Clay called. "Watch out for the trees Peril. Also, please don't land on anybody. It would be a bad first impression."
"Okay!" Peril swooped low, swinging her huge neck side to side. I felt Hiccup stiffen some more as she flew low and did another circle.
Something doesn't feel right to me, like this dragon could destroy the world. I spotted a rock not far off. Peril spotted it to, apparently, because the next moment she was there, diving toward the rock with huge wings. She gently opened her wings and landed with a large thump on the rock. She glanced around.
"What are you doing with these tiny dragons Clay? Why did you bring them here? With scavengers? I could totally land on one and it would burn straight to a crisp. Should I demonstrate for them?" My eyes widened and I flared my nostrils.
I'd like to see her try to catch me.
"Whoa, Peril. I didn't bring them here, Moon did. The scavengers are their friends. And no, let Moon introduce you to them. Now, what's a Deadly Natter?" He turned back around to Stormfly.
"A Deadly Natter is a sharp class dragon with the ability to shoot spines from the tail." She spiked her tail to demonstrate. Clay and Peril gasped and she folded them back down. "We have a strong attack and a high speed element. We have tough armor, a incredibly amount of firepower, although our shot limit is six. We have strong jaws and amazing stealth. Deadly Nadders also have the hottest fire of any dragon. Anything else?" She looked at Clay.
"No, but I want to see your scavenger." Stormfly nodded and crouched down. Astrid got the message and carefully got off, while she looked like she would rather stay on. Clay, on the other hand, spread out his legs and pressed his belly to the ground, stretching his neck and head out flat. Stormfly nudged Astrid with her muzzle and Astrid took a step forward hesitantly, but then jumped back as she heard a scream.
Hiccup was the one who suddenly screamed from my back as I felt his weight lift. I whirled around and bared my teeth, ready to call my Alpha instincts, but instead I saw a silvery white dragon, gently holding Hiccup in his talons. I could see he wasn't about to hurt him so I relaxed, the others following my lead of getting defensive and easing off. Hiccup clutched the talons and the dragon peered at Hiccup closely.
"Winter! What did I say about holding them?" A strange voice called. Hiccup stopped struggling, but his brow had furrowed, meaning he was thinking of a solution. I expected the dragon looked down and mutter, but instead he arched his neck at the strange sandy dragon and Moon.
"Your exact words were: 'do not throw them or eat them or torture them.' You never said to not pick them up." He gently placed Hiccup down though, and I saw him look around at the other dragons. "Who are your new friends Moon?"
"They are from where Turtle sent me." She answered calmly. "I going to show them around. I thought maybe they could see the Sand Kingdom next. Qibli?"
"Sure they can." 'Qibli' said. "Queen Thorn will welcome them. We do have amazing history." I raised my wing and waved it in the air. "That's Toothless. He is a Night Fury, not a Nightwing. Toothless, this is Qibli and Winter. Did you need something Toothless?"
"Yes, I need food. I'm hungry. We are probably all hungry. Doesn't have to be fish though." Moon nodded.
"Let's head up to Jade Mountain. I want to hurry and tell Queen Glory I'm back. Is she there Clay? I didn't sense her mind, but then she is surrounded by rock." I reran her words in my head and did a double take.
"You can sense minds?!" I shrieked. My voice echoed around the trees. Moon's face turned to one of horror.
(Hiccup's POV)
Toothless swooped into the trees with the others behind us. The big dragon landed with a very large thump; our dragons landed with smaller ones. I tensed as the big dragon turned to face us. He had warm brown eyes that looked curious. Toothless growled questionably, with what sounded like hesitation at first. The big dragon rumbled back and then growled.
Probably asking questions about us. I watched as Toothless suddenly opened his jaws and retracted his teeth, showing them off. The dragon gasped in surprise and rumbled to Toothless in admiration. Toothless called and Stormfly's face turned to shock. I frowned as Toothless grumbled and Stormfly lost her expression. Stormfly started forward with a slow, cautious walk and Astrid clutched her neck. Her ax was lowered, which was unusual. Toothless did a series of roars and grumbles and Stormfly looked at the big dragon and started squawking. Then she tipped her head and growled questionably.
"Some... us...do...I...don't." He looked uncomfortable.
Wait. I had just heard dragons. Talking. Or maybe I was hallucinating. I don't know. The big dragon suddenly waved his wing.
"Hey! Peril!" He called. I looked up and saw a dragon with copper scales. I immediately felt danger like I had never felt before. She turned and she had an expression 'don't look at me dragon, look at me dragon'. "Watch out for the trees Peril. Also, please don't land on anybody. It would be a bad first impression."
So that would explain the doom feeling. Her name is Peril.
"Okay." She then swooped low, her gigantic neck swinging from side to side. I stiffened as the dragon swooped low again. It looked like her wings were smoking, but it was hard to tell in the dimly lit canopy. I spotted a huge rock not far off and Peril suddenly landed on it, making me notice how big she really was. Her copper wings flashed and her eyes looked deadly. Peril looked around quickly. "What are you doing with these tiny dragons Clay? Why did you bring them here? With scavengers? I could totally land on one and it would burn straight to a crisp. Should I demonstrate for them?" She asked. It took all my willpower not to scream and run into the woods.
This dragon wouldn't do that on purpose, surely?
"Whoa, Peril. I didn't bring them here, Moon did. The scavengers are their friends. And no, let Moon introduce you to them. Now, what's a Deadly Natter?" He turned back around to Stormfly and Astrid.
"A Deadly Natter is a sharp class dragon with the ability to shoot spines from the tail." She spiked her tail to demonstrate. Peril and Clay gasped in awe and surprise. She folded them back down. "We have a strong attack and a high speed element. We have tough armor, a incredibly amount of firepower, although our shot limit is six. We have strong jaws and amazing stealth. Deadly Nadders also have the hottest fire of any dragon. Anything else?" She glanced at Clay.
"No, but I want to see your scavenger." Stormfly nodded and bent low so Astrid could climb off. Astrid got off, getting the message, her expression one of 'I want to stay on my dragon but okay I'll get off'. I watched as Clay spread himself out flat and lowered his neck and head to Astrid's height. Just as Stormfly gave her a gentle nudge and she took a hesitant step forward, I felt ice-cold talons wrap around me and I screamed as I was lifted from Toothless' back. I watched as Astrid jumped back while Toothless whirled around and bared his teeth, the other dragons following his lead. I clutched the dragon's talon in surprise.
The dragon holding me was a silvery-white color with blue-black eyes. The weirdest thing about him was the coldness emitting from his scales. I remembered Moon's drawing in the arena, and I realized who the dragon was.
This must be Winter the Icewing. He isn't going to hurt me, I can tell from the way he's holding me. I heard Toothless backing off and relaxing slightly. Winter peered at me with blue-black eyes and that had flashes of sadness and regret there. I thrashed, but he held me too tightly for me to escape.
"Winter! What did I say about holding them?" I looked up and saw Moon and a Sandwing flying gracefully down to the ground. I stopped thrashing and tried to think of ways I could get Moon's attention. However, it wasn't needed. The dragon holding me arched his neck and replied.
"Your exact words were: 'do not throw them or eat them or torture them.' You never said to not pick them up." I was put down with care though and I looked at the dragons from a smaller view this time. "Who are your new friends Moon?"
"They are from where Turtle sent me." She answered calmly. "I going to show them around. I thought maybe they could see the Sand Kingdom next. Qibli?" I looked at him curiously.
"Sure they can." Qibli said. "Queen Thorn will welcome them. We do have amazing history." I watch as Toothless waved his wing.
"That's Toothless. He is a Night Fury, not a Nightwing. Toothless, this is Qibli and Winter. Did you need something Toothless?"
"Yes, I need food. I'm hungry. We are probably all hungry. Doesn't have to be fish though."
Oops. Forgot about Moon's weird hatred toward fish. These dragons must be the same. Maybe except for the Seawing in Moon's drawing. Wasn't Turtle his name? And the other one. Her name was Kinkajou, and if I remember correctly her breed was called Rainwing.
"Let's head up to Jade Mountain. I want to hurry and tell Queen Glory I'm back. Is she there Clay? I didn't sense her mind, but then she is surrounded by rock." I jumped in surprise at what she had said. I open my mouth to yelp and tell the others, but Toothless beat me to it.
"You can sense minds?!" He shrieked. Moon's face looked like she wished she could disappear into thin air.
