Mia's POV
Dear Jeb,
It's currently a little after three o'clock on a Tuesday night in January. Well, I guess that makes it an early Wednesday morning. I'm not really into technicalities today.
I'm sitting in an emergency room waiting room, Sailor on one side, Jonah on the other. Sailor is asleep, Jonah is wide awake. Hunter hasn't come out to tell us what's going on. Something's wrong with the baby, Jeb. Something's happening to Resa...
I know I wrote you back when Resa found out she was having another child, a little over three months had passed since you left us at the time. Now, it's almost seven.
I'm scared, Jeb. I'm scared for my best friend and for your sister. I'm scared for the little baby that was a light in the fog after you. That little baby has to be okay.
My parents are on their way right now, your mother is as well. I think Herman is coming too, that is his daughter in there, after all. Colt and Park want to come, I had to be the one to alert them all of the situation.
Jonah hasn't taken his eyes off of the door, Jeb. He reminds me of you, sometimes. I know, MIA SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH RESA WHY ARE YOU TELLING ME THIS??? First off, don't yell at me, and second, because it helps me get my mind off of Resa. She'll be okay, and that baby will be okay. They have to be okay... Right?
Okay, I'm gonna try to talk to Jonah now.
Love, Mia
"Hey, Jon?" I set my journal to the side. My seven year old nephew, who really does remind me a lot of Jeb, turns to look at me, his eyes big and red rimmed. "How are we feeling?"
"Nervous," I watch him wipe his nose with his shirtsleeve, he hasn't stopped snuffing since we've been here. "Why hasn't Dad come out yet?"
"Um..." I try to think of what to say.
"Is the baby going to be okay? Is my mom going to be okay?"
"Um..."
"Aunt Mia?"
"The doctors are going to do everything they can to help your mom and the baby, okay?"
"But-"
"Everything, Jon. Anything that have to do, they'll do it."
"If I knew that having a brother or sister meant this, I wouldn't have kept asking."
"Jonah-" The doors swing open, revealing Hunter in a haphazard state.
He's dressed in scrubs and his eyes are bloodshot, but he has a small smile on his face. I stand, Jonah right there with me.
"It's a girl." He whispers. I'm able to get to him before he breaks down. I hug my older brother, the same way he held me just a few short months ago, when the effects of the night had hit me. "It's a girl, Mi. It's a girl and she's four pounds. She's so tiny and small." I rub small circles in his back as I peek over him to Jonah, frozen next to his chair. "Res is going to be okay, but the next twenty four hours are crucial to the baby..."
"Tell your son, HD." I whisper, turning Hunter to Jonah.
Jonah takes one look at his Dad before running into his arms. I watch my brother, Hunter Dean, pick up his son, Jonah Dean, and pull him close to his chest. I feel a pang in my heart, but luckily Sailor wakes up.
"Mama, is Aunt Resa okay?" I scoop my girl up in my arms, snuggling her nose to mine.
"Yes, yes she is."
