The feeling was almost unrecognizable after 5 years of peace on Earth. It was that feeling that made her heart stutter and it was that feeling caused her skin to rise in goosebumps, not the chilling wind that danced about in her long, blonde locks.
Silence that used to comfort her now would be the cause of her demise. It left her alone with the shadowy figure that followed from a block behind.
Romelle quickened her pace in fear. She had already spent half an hour trying to stay calm, but as the distance closed between her and the stranger she felt her heart beat more erratically. Their feet scuffed from behind her, and she heard them huff in impatience.
She had participated in a war that expanded across the whole universe a few years ago, but she had friends then. By herself in the dark, against a mysterious enemy– it was becoming too much for her to handle.
"Anastasia!" A voice suddenly rang out into the darkness. Romelle kept moving, but her attention snapped to a door opening and the girl that made herself known. The person following her halted in their tracks, but she could still feel their piercing stare on her neck. "There you are!"
Romelle didn't recognize the woman bounding up to her. The new stranger's brown arms were exposed to the night air, and her deep brown eyes comforted the one in trouble immensely.
"Oh, hello?" Romelle greeted, going along with the act. Her voice held a small shred of questioning, to which the girl's grin faltered.
"Hey, I've been waiting for you! Girls' night, remember?" She grabbed Romelle's hand, and began dragging her towards the door bathed in light. "The other four are inside!"
As the two reached the threshold of the house, the blonde glanced over her shoulder. The predator was already leaving with slouched shoulders, walking from where they had came.
