A little bit later Alice walked down the stairs, freshly showered, makeup applied discreetly and dressed in a blue marine suit. She cautiously looked around the corner towards the kitchen to check the situation in the rather unusual very quiet house this morning.

Good morning." Wendy shouted from the living room.

Alice immediately noticed the amused undertone in her sister's voice and could'nt resist a pejorative rolling of her eyes.
"Where is Tommy?"

„He's doing a few errands. It's only you and me all alone here in this big house." The dark-brunette came towards her twin sister with a big grin on her lips.

Alice closed her eyes for a moment to gather. She took a deep but calm, long breath before she said: „What are your plans for the day?"

„I have no plans."

„May you perhaps accompany me to my appointment? About an hour's car drive."

„Sure, why not." Wendy replied quickly but surprised.

„Ok. Let's go. I'm late." Alice grabbed her purse, the house keys and car keys and gestured her sister to follow her immediately.

They were already on the road for a few miles but without exchanging a single word. In the background they had just been announced The Frays song -Never say never - in the radio, when Alice finally broke her silence.
„It's serious between you and Tommy, isn't it?"

„Yes, it's serious."

„So you are happy?"

„Very. Tommy fills in all the gaps that kept me away from living a peaceful, balanced life."

„That's good." Alice sincerely smiled.

Wendy eyes her twin from the side, unsure, how she should interpret Alice's interest.
„We are getting married! Soon at the end of the summer." She said offensive.

„And yet you wait until now to tell me? I mean, that's less than three months away." The blonde averted her face abruptly from the street while her blue eyes sparkled angrily.

„I wasn't sure," Said Wendy who recognized the confused yet aggressive expression in her sister's face, „if the news would be important enough for you at all."

Alice had to swallow hard. The harsh reality hit her unexpectedly.
„Is that so?" She asked.

„Maybe you should fill me in!"

„Our relationship has been complicated for years, yes, " Alice started, „but that doesn't mean that I don't care. I do care."

The car rolled slowly to the side of the road. Only surrounded by mountains, framed by beautiful nature forests. Alice used the warning lights, pulled the handbrake and then turned tensed in Wendy's direction.
„I'm always interested in you and what you're doing even if I don't have the feeling right now. I want you to be happy."

„It's hard for me to believe that." Wendy paused thoughtful for seconds before she continued: „I know I made a big mistake, Alice, even you never seem to miss an opportunity to remind me and just rubb it under my nose, again and again. There is no day where I don't think about that I ruined almost all our lives. I'm so sorry for everything. I love Chic like my own child. I would even give my life if I could undo it and turn back time."

Alice sighed and shook her head defensively: „As you mentioned it, it never occurred to you at that night I could've not only lose my son but the rest of my family too? You would have just gone away, you would have taken my son with you and left me alone with my pain. The truth is, I try to stay away from you so that I don't have to experience that exact scenario. I haven't trusted you since that day, that you get your life under control again, that you come to your senses again. We went through so much as children but we always fought hand in hand even at our lowest points of lives. This evening you decided to let go of my hand because you wanted to run away from your problems. You haven't thought about what you were doing. You not only lost control, you've let me down."

„That's how you see it?"

„Yes." Alice looked at her watch. „We have to go now. Otherwise I miss my appointment. Let's talk on the way back. I have to clear my thoughts first."

„Where are we going?" Wendy asked as the engine started.

„To a doctor. Routine examination."

„But that's possible in Rive...."

„Not without gossip .. to a special doctor ... for women." The tires of the car began to roll again and took off on the road.
