35. Of Firsts and I Love Yous

I was sitting on  the bleachers at the soccer field. It was already eight in the evening and the boys finally decided that they wanted to eat.

I took the break a chance to call Pete. We're supposed to have dinner together but Jek dragged me to the field and he wouldn't even listen to me protest so I ended up bailing out at my boyfriend.

I smirked at the word. It had been months but it felt just like yesterday when Pete took me by surprise and kissed me before agreeing to be my boyfriend. That was definitely the highlight of my year. And now, every moment with him was just it for me.

I had been with a few people, in a relationship I considered serious but this was the first relationship I was too invested with but in a relaxed and  carefree kind of way. I was genuinely enjoying every minute of it.

I took my phone and dialed his number.

"Having a good time?"

He picked up almost instantly.

"Yeah. But it would be better if I'm with you right now."

I heard him chuckled.

"You know what, don't be such a drama queen. I know you love hanging out with your friends, you don't need to be extra nice you know, I've said yes already."

There was laughter in his voice. I smiled. It just made me missed him some more.

"Me missing you all the time is not for you. It's for me. Or did you spike my food maybe, that's why I'm obssessing with you a little too much?"

"Don't make me throw up my chinese dinner,Earn. You're being too gooey again."

I laughed.

Then sighed.

"I should be there with you tonight."

My boyfriend snickered.

"It's not as if we're not going to see each other tomorrow."

He was right. But  then again...

"Ahhh! Whatever! I'm dropping by!"

I stood up when I saw Jek approaching.

"Earn, Bop's inviting everyone to karaoke and hotpot at his place, let's go."

He seemed to not see me on the phone so I raised it to give him the signal but he seemed to not care at all.

"Come on, dude, we had some tough game, aren't you hungry?"

I nodded and signalled him the phone again.

"I'll just finish this call. I'll let you know after."

I smiled as I walked to a corner for some privacy. I might had seen Jek scowl, but I didn't linger too much on it, I still had my boyfriend on the phone to talk with.

"Why are you still on the phone? Go with them!"

Pete told me after I told him about the invite.

"I was supposed to drop by at your place."

Pete groaned.

"You can always do it some other time. Go along!"

I was hesitant.

"Are you sure?"

"As long as you behave, you don't need to worry about anything."

I smiled.

"I'm always behaved."

He chuckled. Then stilled.

"I know."

I shook my head.

Maybe Phun was right, I'm a psycho. And Pete here's my obsession.

"Bye, now. Enjoy!"

Pete said which brought me back from my trance.

"Wait!"

"What?"

I bit my lower lip.

"I love you!"

Silence.

"Pete?"

Silence.

"Pete---I"

"I love you, too!"

He said after sometime and went on laughing.

I laughed myself.

"What's funny?"

He stilled.

"You! Do you realize it's actually the first time we said I love yous to each other?"

What? I thought I had told him a lot of times already?!?

"Really?"

"Yeah. But...I always feel it though. You always do. Make me feel it."

I smiled.

He made me feel the same but I decided to tease my boyfriend.

"You didn't say it yourself too."

"I just said it."

"Well, not before I did."

I heard him sigh.

"Are we gonna argue about it now?"

"No!"

I cleared my throat.

"We're good. I guess I'm gonna go with the rest of the guys now."

I heard him laugh.

"Good. Now, hang up."

I smiled even wider.

"No, you hang up!"

"Earn! Seriously?"

I chuckled. Why, I'm so loving this!

"Okay, on three, we hung up together, okay?  1 2 3!"

I bit my lip.

"You didn't hung up."

Pete's tone was accusing.

"I love you!"

I told him. My heart was too full, it might burst if I didn't let it out.

"I love you...and I'm hanging up now. For real. Bye, Earn! Enjoy!"

I smiled for the nth time when I heard the dial tone.

The lights at the field were starting to shut but my heart was glowing. It was too happy it could lit up the whole town.
