When Diane pulled over, I silently removed my seatbelt and opened the door.
"It is not your fault Kaelie. The circumstance was out of your control. Don't you dare think about it."
"As if I would. I killed way too many people to feel bad."
Diane sighed and got out of the car. I followed soon after.

Third Person POVWhen the group was complete and all were in respective places in the room. The Chief abruptly came in and looked as red as a tomato.
"How can you let this happen!?"
His voice echoed around the room. Even the officers with him flinched at his words.
Leo stood up from his seat, looking exhausted and drained. "Chief we didn't mean for this to happen, it was inevitable." He tried to reason out.
Diane stood beside him rubbing his back to ease him up. The other three looked passive. They were preoccupied with the things that happened a few moments ago.
"That's not the point Gerard, You asked the government to give you a chance to help solve problems, but you are just causing more and more to pile up."
"Oh back off! As if your officers and yourself do crap! Look at you getting high everyday. You think we didn't know that? Don't think so highly of yourselves because of your position. In fact, we have more leverage against you to bring you assholes down!"
Diane exploded, trying to attack the chief but failed because Leo was holding her back. She struggled against his grip but tried to loosen it anyways.
"This. This is what happens when you put foolish kids in charge."
Matt stood up calmly and gave the chief a menacing glare. "No. This is what happens when you let foolish addicts in a position they don't deserve."
Matt left the office, followed by Kaelie and Julius. The people present were shocked. It was evident from their mouths ajar that they didn't expect that from the blonde.
Leo released his grip on Diane. They both strutted out of the office without acknowledging the Chief and his officers.

A few days later, we were invited by the officer's family to attend his funeral. It was a private ceremony. They didn't even tell the media about what happened.
When the ceremony was over they invited us for tea.
"What was it like?"
"What was what like?"
"What was it like to be near death."
Julius opened and closed his mouth at the question.
"Personally, I felt weak. But then when I looked at my team mates, I found strength to fight my fear. That and I do these kinds of things since I was fourteen years old. "
Kaelie cleared her throat and pulled out the pink envelope. "Ma'am I believe he wanted your daughter to have this." She shyly handed the paper to the woman who had her daughter sitting near her.
"Thank you."
The woman abruptly stood up and left the room shaking slightly. Her daughter Emily, seemed to be fazed by what happened but was concerned with her mom.
"What happened to mommy?" Diane approached her and put her hand on Emily's shoulder for comfort. "Your mom just needs space alright?" The little girl nodded and played with the hem of her pink skirt.
Kaelie felt guilty and discreetly searches for the Older woman around their house. She found her on the porch crying silently.
"Mrs. Flint, I-"
"Oh, I'm sorry." The woman wiped her cheeks to remove the tears." What could I help you with Kaelie?"
"Well I was just looking out for you ma'am. You reminded me of someone." Mrs. Flint widened her eyes a bit and payed more attention to the girl.
"Who do I remind you of, if I may ask?"
"My grandmother."
"Why is that?"
"Because when I was ten, My Mom,Dad, Brother and Grandpa died. They-They were murdered."This time the older woman really did widen her eyes in shock. She comforted the girl but it's as if Kaelie wasn't fazed by it anymore.
"It's ok I moved on."
"Well I truly am sorry. Brave of you to be this strong and hold on." exclaimed the woman who was clutching the letter her husband addressed to them. "It's just that he seems to have known what the chain of events was leading to. May I ask, How do you stay strong child?"
"I had to remember that I wasn't the only one to lose someone in their life. At first it was hard, but eventually I got the closure I needed. Sadly they still don't know who killed my family. They only told us about the multiple bullet holes that went pass the car."
Mrs. Flint at this point hugged the girl tightly. She may be a stranger but it's as if she got strength from what the younger woman told her.
"It's life we can't do anything about it. All we have to do is move forward."
The two talked more through the afternoon. The other four listened in on their conversation discreetly. Diane failed to hold back her tears from what she heard from the exchange of the two women outside the porch. They eventually had to say goodbye to Mrs. Flint and Emily.
The car ride was silent, but it was the good kind of silence.
