Chapter 10: Frenemies

FOB Command Tent Debriefing

Y/n POV

"Congratulations on another successful mission" Six complimented over a screen. All of the hospital team was sitting around a folding table with me at the head. Meghan(Valkyrie) sat on my right, Craig(Blackbeard) sat on my left, Ela, Olivier(Lion), Jordan(Thermite), Gustave(Doc), and Marius(Jager) filled up the table. The rest of the operators, minus the artifact team, were off resting or working out in pairs on my orders, less chance of HEAT trying something this way. I didn't see much of them around the base as we walked to debriefing, I wager they were off on a mission, there's much to do around Truth and Consequences.

"Dr. Mackintosh is currently in the medbay researching a cure on the newly mutated virus, against our dear doctor's orders," I reported

"She is as stubborn as you are Y/n," Doc remarked "But she is quite brilliant, and that patch job you did in the field was quite amazing."

"I think you meant to say is motivated and thank you, kind sir." I retorted

"At any rate how is the cure coming along?" Six inquired

"Very well, Dr. Mackintosh's is very close, however, she actually made quite a fascinating discovery. The original virus has mutated very quickly and in its' evolutionary course it seemed to have made itself non-contagious in any form except for airborne spores shot out by an infected nicknamed an Apex." Gustave(Doc) explained as Six's screen got taken over by a picture of a scrawny tall infected in a biohazard suit, what was bizarre and caught my attention was that it was flying.

"How viable will that cure be against the infected like that and that giant one we've fought?" Craig(Blackbeard) questioned

"Ideally it will work but realistically it will only work on the early infected such as the ones that explode and the grunts" Gustave(Doc) explained.

"That's not good enough." Olivier(Lion) butted in

"Oh, I'm sorry how far along is your cure?" Doc shot back Six and I looked at each other and I could see Craig(Blackbeard) exhaling and Meghan(Valkyrie) rolling her eyes in my peripherals.

"Would be farther alo-" Olivier(Lion) started I looked to Olivier(Lion) and was about to intervene when Jordan(Thermite) did it for me

"Enough, gentlemen please we are stuck working together so please let's keep it professional. We all know the cure isn't perfect, but neither is this situation. Gustave is working tirelessly and Olivier we get that you have had a rough time as of late, but I would ask your patience as we fight through a very tough situation." He stated very tactfully. I raised my eyebrows and looked at Six I could tell we were thinking the same thing: Leader List. "Anyway," Meghan finally breaks the silence "Is there any report from the artifact team?"

"Yes, actually." Six started "Ash and her team have secured the artifact with the assistance of HEAT." I stood up "Excuse me." I started "So all of 12 mercenaries are alone with 4 of our operators."

"Scarecrow, let's not do this right now." She stressed. Meghan(Valkyrie) grabbed my hand I looked around to see the other operators looking at us, Six is right, now is not the time for this fight. I sat back down.

"Anything else?" Six asked. I took a deep breath "Yes as I'm sure you all know during that last mission my name was released. And since I know that one of you is an unstoppable gossip." I looked at Ela meaningfully "I would ask that you keep my name to yourselves. I was going to give you my first name eventually anyways but I must know that you can keep it a secret. None of you needs to know my last name. You may tell other operators, but no one else. You are dismissed assuming neither you nor Six has anything else."
