Crouching in the reeds
Waiting for you to leave
was the hardest thing I've ever done.
as you walked away I believed it
too late to run after you.
Run screaming and
crying into your arms.
I was scared you would drop me,
let me fall into the mud.
To cut my face on the gravel and rocks.
For the reeds to entangle my flailing arms
and for you to keep walking.
What I didn't know was that you were waiting
for me to come after you.
You wanted me to come running
just so you could hold me.
I didn't know that you would never drop me.
No, you would never let go
if you were given the chance.
You would never let me fall.
And if I was entangled in reeds
you would save me from death himself.
You would never walk away from me.
But I didn't know.
But now that I do I run for you
Because it is my turn
To hold you.
