On the half eaten stem of a leaf,
A fat caterpillar sits.
Munching through her branch,
The third of the morning.
Her long green body,
Causes the leaf to quake.
She has beautiful black stripes,
Ribbing her back.
Blotches of yellow,
Splattered in lines along her body.
Today she decided,
Was the big day.
One hundred times bigger,
Than she was at hatching.
She hung upside down.
Blood rushed to her head.
Sheading her skin,
She digested herself.
Over many long weeks,
And hard nights at work.
She is ready for rebirth.
For her new life.
Breaking the shell,
Holding her captive.
Dragging herself,
From the prison,
She locked herself in.
Now she emerges,
Her wings slowly stretch.
Until beautiful colour,
Spreads around her.
Like stained glass windows.
Deep orange emerges.
She is truly the queen
She was made to be.
She is the monarch.
