You said you won't forget me,
And I said I won't forget you.
But how can we be sure,
Someday we all forget,
And I know that now.
Someday you'll forget.
Someday you'll forget me.
And I will to. I'll forget, you too.
One day, I will, that much I know,
For certain, I know it, in my heart.
For memories of you and I,
I yearn to see your face.
To hear your laughter
Hear it shatter the darkness,
Just one last time.
I can't promise not now nor ever,
That I won't forget your face.
And as we say goodbye,
To one another we are lost.
To the wind and to the rain.
I can't seem to see you,
You're fading too fast,
Soon too hazy to make out,
No longer can I see you,
You're gone, again.
Lost to the wind, and
Lifted away, floating.
Scattered like the ash,
Of old friends, long gone.
Gone all too soon.
But something of you,
I will always remember.
The echo of your laugh.
Even if I don't know,
Who it is that laughs.

I wrote this last year as a goodbye to the 2017 seniors.
This poem is about how you forget people when you die.
