At dinner time I was seated next to Due and another warrior wolf. I didn't want to sit next to Xavier, I was so scared of him. Lycan didn't come to dinner he was on patrol tonight which I was thankful for. Everyone was eating quietly, but I should have known my bad luck just wouldn't allow that.

Dues POV

Well I was eating from the corner of my eye I seen a dark mark on Layla's shoulder. I turned and grabbed her hand, but as I did that she tried to flinch away but I held her and she wasn't going anywhere. Everyone was just staring at me and Xavier looked at me with a death stare. I was the only one that knew Layla was his mate or should I say unwanted mate.

"Layla what happened to your shoulder?" I asked her while removing her sleeve off her shoulder and the makeup she had used to try and hide it. When I asked her this she got up but as soon as she did that so did Xavier and me. Her eyes were filled with tears and Xavier's eyes held pain but his hands were fisted.

Layla's POV

I answered Dues question but with a lie....

"I....I....I was ammmm doing something and I fell." I said well I thanked everyone and excused myself from the table. I heard Due telling Xavier that he was convinced someone had hurt me.
I was standing in the kitchen holding myself up by holding onto the counter. I heard foot steps coming into the kitchen...

Xavier's POV

I commanded everyone to go to their room and eat there as I made my way to the kitchen where Layla was. I hated myself I couldn't believe that I'd hurt her.

I hated myself even more after I seen the way she walked backwards trying to get away from me when I got in the room. She was trembling and started to cry.

Layla and Xavier's conversation
Xavier's -"Layla, I'm...I'm..."I couldn't find the words to say how sorry I was for hurting her so bad.
Layla-"I'm sorry alpha, I didn't mean for anyone to see the marks. I promise I tried to hide them. "I said these words afraid that he was going to punish me.

......

Xavier POV

I felt a hard lump in my throat as she finished her apology and what made it worse was that she called me alpha instead of my name.

I held her hand in my own but she was trembling and her blue eyes were filled with unshed tears. It was breaking my heart.
"Layla I'm sorry I hurt you.  I'm sorry for everything Layla please forgive me please." I was on the edge of crying and I hated it. I was an alpha I was meant to be strong with no weaknesses but look at me now.

She lifted her eyes to look in my own and then her little hand lifted and wiped away the tears that threatened to escape from my eyes. She was still trembling.

How could she still care for someone after they hurt her so bad?
