We all loaded back into the cars, Mary now driving the truck and Matt leading the way. I was now in the passenger seat of the car; the very spot where Alicia had died.
I just stared out the front window, watching as we drove off of the main road. We were instantly on a rock road; now I was glad I was buckled.
We soon pulled off onto a dirt road, which then led into a small little clearing. I guess this was their backup camp; a small campsite in the woods. Great.
Matt parked the car, turning off the engine before stepping out. I followed him, hearing Mac get out as well. Everyone was getting out to check out our new campsite.
Matt started back to the car, popping the trunk open, "There's also a small creek nearby so we can have fresh water as well."
We all got to work setting up our new home, me having to get help to set up my tent again. Everyone ended up making it look like our last campsite in the store; one big half-circle of tents with the campfire in the middle.
Matt was cooking up some food. I hadn't even noticed I was hungry until now. I guess I was still affected by shock or something at seeing someone dying right in front of me.
Once most of us had set up everything, Mary led me to the creek. It was a long ten-minute walk and she wouldn't tell me what we were doing out here until we got there. She pulled her bag off her shoulders and plopped it on the ground before digging through it. She pulled out a shampoo bottle, some soap, and even a towel.
Once she saw I was giving her a weird look, she pulled me down to sit on the ground in front of her. She pulled off my bloodstained jacket and started washing the blood and corn off my face and from my hair. For her to do this, I probably looked terrible.
I just let her clean me up until she reached back into her bag and pulled out a pair of jeans and a t-shirt, "I hope you don't mind, you're current clothes just look very dirty. I hope they're okay..."
She was treating me like my mother would. Maybe she felt bad that I was going through the end of the world alone? Whatever it was, I'm not going to take her kindness for granted at a time like this.
I took the clothes, her getting up and taking her things when I did. "Once you're done, just come back to camp. If you're very fond of those clothes, we can probably try to wash them," with that, she left me to get changed.
I took a look at the clothes I had; a pair of random blue jeans and a t-shirt with a Deadpool symbol on it. Seems like something I would wear. I stripped off my current clothes, cringing at how dirty they had become over the past few days, and out on the new ones. I took this as a chance to check out any injuries I had gotten over the past few days. My elbow was a nasty yellow-green-brown color, showing that it was slowly healing.
I then reached up to feel my chin, letting out a small hiss in pain at the fresh wound. Man was I a klutz.
