Many days after the event that left us alone left us wandering around through the forest, following the only road but not wanting to head back.
We rationed our two bags of supplies, not knowing when we'd be able to find more. Mac seemed to be doing fine. She allowed me to give her the gun she used to save me while I was trying to save her, along with the pocket knife I'm pretty sure her dad gave to me. So I guess it's kinda living up to his legacy.
We stayed on the side of the road in case any cars came by, the only time we ventured off was when we actually came across a house. It was clearly surrounded by a neglected farm, and it was an off-white color from age. I decided it would be a perfect place to hide out for a couple of days for the two of us to regroup and finally mourn the loss of our makeshift family.
So I led Mac to the front of the building, making her stay outside while I scouted out the house. It seemed like whoever lived here left before the end of the world as it was a nice and clean place.
I allowed Mac in as we put down our stuff and look around. I gave her a smile, "This seems like a good place to stay for a while."
