I wake up at 3:40 am to see the nurse checking on Jo Elma.

"Is she doing okay, Ms. Jessie?" I ask the nurse tiredly.

"Her vitals were good, but we had to bump her oxygen up. Surgery should be up very shortly to come and get her. They want to operate on her ASAP, per the doctor." she says to me with a sad look.

"Thanks!" I say to her.

She nods and exits the room. I get up with my crutch and go beside Jo Elma and sit in a chair. I gently put her hand in mine. I hear a knock on the door.

"Come in!" I say loudly.

The door opens to my friends come in.

"Oh my god! What happened?" Natalie says as she tears up.

Everyone looks at me for a response.

"She wanted to make Stephen Jones apologize and promise her to never contact her again. He blacked out, there was a fight, and I told Jo Elma to wait in the living room. She went out as the fight started. She came back, then screamed and hit him in the back of the head. Then he beat her to this point! That bastard will pay for this!" I tell them as my friends start to gather around us.

I hear another knock on the door.

"Come in!" I say as the door opens to reveal tranport.

"I'm here to take Kathryn Taylor to triage!" he says to me.

"Oh okay! Let's do this!" I say as I get up from my chair and grab my crutch.

The nurse walks in with a catheter for the bladder and gets a urine sample. Then she hands me a paper to sign as consent for surgery. I sign it and hand it back to her.

"Thank you!" she says as tranport and her get Jo Elma situated to go downstairs.

"Are you all ready?" she asks me.

"Yeah let's get this over with." I tell her with a frown.

Transport also got me another wheelchair and I sit down in it with my crutch.

"Okay now I'm ready!" I say to my nurse.

"Good luck, Mr. McCann, alright?" she says to me with a sad tone.

"Thanks! I'm gonna need it!" I say to her.

I hope this goes well. Jo Elma, don't die please? Stephen will pay!, I think as we head downstairs and get ready for the worst wait of our lives.
