A crushing weight had sat on Sam's shoulders since Kai had left.
He had to choose.
Oh how we desperately wished Kol was here with all his heart.
He could talk to Kol about it, and Kol would make him feel so much better.
Perhaps that's why he loved Kol so much, he made him feel better no matter the situation.
Though he loved Elijah because he was level headed, and he only gave his love to few.
However he also loved Niklaus because Nik didn't trust anyone, but by god if he did you'd better not hurt them.
Sam wasn't sure he could choose.
All he knew at the moment was that he'd give anything for Kol to be there by his side as he drank at the Mystic Grill.
"Fancy seeing you here Gilbert."
Damon sighed taking a seat by the Salvatore, much like they had Sam's first day back home.
"Can I ask you something?"
Sam rose an eyebrow.
"Go ahead."
Damon nodded at the bar tender for a drink.
"How'd you know you loved Elena?"
Damon was quiet for a moment staring off.
"I don't know man. I guess- jeez I really don't know. It just happened."
Damon sighed taking a sip of his drink.
"I don't know what to do."
Sam sighed rubbing his eyes tiredly.
"You gotta pick Sammy."
Damon downed the rest of his drink as Sam sighed.
"I know."
"Let me ask you something."
Sam turned to Damon expectantly.
"If Elijah were to get killed like Kol had what would you do?"
The thought alone made Sam sick.
"I'd go ballistic."
Sam all but growled out.
"And what about Klaus?"
Sam racked his brain for an answer, but all he could see himself doing was crying.
"I'd just-"
"Breakdown?"
Damon questioned seeing as the boy was at a loss for words.
Sam nodded licking his lips.
"How did you feel when Kol died?"
Damon asked as Sam swallowed hard not having talked about the original's death.
"I Uh- I felt like nothing was ever going to be okay again."
Sam told the Salvatore sincerely.
"How did you feel when Kai left?"
Damon asked as Sam wondered how he knew about that.
"Like it was just another thing I'd have to learn how to live with."
"Like Kol's death?"
"I guess so."
Sam sighed finishing his drink.
"So if one of them died, which one would make you lose hope?"
And as Sam pondered in the bar sat beside Damon of all people, he felt as if he was closer to finding his answer.
