"for you I know I'd even try to turn the tide "
BACK at the park, Lena made faces at Hope as she pushed her in the swing. This was her favourite park out of all the ones they had visited and it was Rebekah's too. More dad's visited this park that she could stare at while she sat on the swing beside Hope, making sure the two girls she had raised were safe.
"Lena," Rebekah suddenly whispered, sounding slightly horrified as she stopped swinging. Lena's eyebrows furrowed at her best friend and followed her line of sight to find a starling sitting on the climbing frame. Suddenly more appeared. It was almost like that scene in 'The Birds'.
"What the hell?"
Lena's hand came out and stopped Hope's swing from swinging even more. The baby girl stopped laughing and stared up at the blue-haired woman with wide eyes watching the climbing frame fill with starling.
"Esther."
Lena had never heard Rebekah sound so afraid as they stood together. As more ravens started to appear, Lena shooed Rebekah off to phone her brother while she grabbed Hope and placed her in her stroller. By the time she had caught up to her best friend, Elijah had picked up the phone.
"It's me," Rebekah told her brother, sharing a look with her best friend as they rushed through the park. "I have the baby and we're on the run. Esther found us." They got to the car and Lena started to buckle Hope into her car seat, still listening to Rebekah talk to her brother on the phone. "We're safe for now. I've lost her bloody starlings, but I have no idea where to go."
Lena jumped into the passenger seat, buckling herself up before turning around. Hope had begun to cry, unsure as to why they were having to rush around. They always kept stuff in the trunk in case they had to go on the run. Suitcases filled with clothes, bags filled with baby stuff, chargers, makeup. Everything that they needed.
"Do not tell Hayley. Esther's too smart for that. The only advantage that we have is that she thinks the baby died, text me with plans," with that Rebekah hung up the phone and threw it into the empty drinks holder next to Lena's. They began to drive, having absolutely no idea where they were going while Lena tried her best to calm Hope down. The little girl was confused and like both of her parents, she hated being confused, so Lena had to sing to her, make faces, use her favourite teddy bear as some sort of puppet in order to stop her from crying.
Her sobs turned to snores and Lena let out a sigh as she spun back around to face the busy roads that her best friend was driving down. "Who's worse? Your mom or dad? " asked Lena, twisting her head to stare at Rebekah.
