|| Welcome to my life - Simple Plan ||

Alicia held the blade between her fore finger and thumb, desperately trying to stop shaking. Her heart raced as the blade gleamed and smiled at her.

She glanced down at the previous scars on her thigh, and attempted to hold back her tears as she gripped the blade tighter. Negative memories flashed through her mind from a simple glance.

One of her best friends, Shannon, sat downstairs completely oblivious to upstairs events. She was watching a musical called "Mamma Mia". It was one of her favourite films.

Alicia's lip trembled as she dragged the blade across her thigh. The pain travelled though her body as she exhaled. She pressed harder on the blade as it impaled itself into her bleeding flesh. Blood trickled down her leg as she put down the blade and grabbed the damp flannel.

She pressed it against the cut letting it absorb the blood. After she had held it there for a minute or two, she patted the last of the blood and bring the blade to her flesh another 4 times, each time was deeper then the other.

She took a deep breath and carved a cross over the open bleeding cuts. Her face scrunched with pain as her hand trembled.

She put down the blade and run the cold water tap over it to remove the blood. The flannel was placed back onto her leg and wiped the blood that had been smeared over the top of her leg. Alicia wrapped her thigh in a padded bandage and rinsed the flannel through. She put her pyjama bottoms back on and placed the blade back into the sharpener, securing it with the small screw.

"What's taking you so long! The films nearly finished!" Shannon's voice travelled from the living room and into the bathroom

"I'm coming!" Alicia responded as she flushed the un-used toilet and run the tap. She grabbed the sharpener and the bloody flannel and threw them into her bedroom on her way downstairs.

Shaking the feeling of nausea, she plastered a fake smile onto her face as she walked into the living room.

"What took you so long? You missed the part where she's singing with her boyfriend." Shannon cocked her head sideways in an observing way. "You seem different. Are you alright?"

Alicia smiled through the lie. "Yeah I'm fine. Why do you ask?" She sat on the opposite sofa and tried to immense herself in the last 45 minutes of Mamma Mia.

"I don't know. Something seems off. Anyway do you want some popcorn?" Shannon swivelled her body around and grabbed the bowl of popcorn that was behind her.

Alicia denied the offer and closed her eyes to fight back the tears. Shannon didn't know about Alicia's secret, neither did her other 4 best friends.

Alicia looked at Shannon, grateful that she had a great friendship group. Even though they were all trustworthy and supportive, they would never understand the reason why. How could they if Alicia couldn't explain it herself?

Shannon was sitting up with her legs laid out in front of her. Her back was propped up against all the pillows in the living room, her glasses rested on the coffee table behind her.

Alicia payed on the sofa and closed her eyes, attempting to find peace in this confusing situation. Her mind wondered the different possible scenarios that could have happened if she had never moved to Australia or if her mother had never had the accident.

"Shannon?" Alicia sat up to face her best friend, her thigh hurting in the process.

"Yeah hunnie?" She turned and faced her best friend.

"Do you mind if I went out for a while?"

"No go ahead. Just take your phone please." Shannon nodded as Alicia stood up and grabbed her iPhone of the window ledge.

"I'll see you later." She said her goodbyes and walked out of their home. Her neighbours greeted her with a wave that she simply returned and carried on walking.

She needed to go there. She needed a place to go when things get tough. So she walked to her sanctuary.

The Drug House.
