"Flowers I should've bought, all the hours I lost. Wish I could bring it back to the start."

Dear, Sophia,

Last night was pretty weird. Mom made me take Harry out trick or treating. You remember Harry, my little brother. I know you do. He loved you. He misses you by the way.

But anyway, I took him out trick or treating with his little Spiderman costume and orange Jack'o'lantern candy basket. We had been almost all over the block until we got three blocks down from our house. We walked up to this house where there was this scarecrow and carved Jack'o'lanterns sitting on the steps. Sitting on the steps with them though were these four guys, smoking cigarettes and passing around a bottle in a paper bag.

Two of those guys were Luke and Calum.

I was disgusted by this and I know you would be too. Why the fuck are they smoking and drinking while kids are going to be coming up to their house to get candy?

I pushed Harry further up the block, telling him to go to the next house and that I would be right behind him. As he ran off, I was about to walk after him to wait for him when someone called my name. I turned around to see Luke running up to me with his cigarette in his hand.

"Hey," he said to me.

"Hey," I said awkwardly. Why was he talking to me?

"Want some?" he asked, lifting his cigarette. His lip still looked busted, but it was slowly healing.

"Uh, no," I said. "I don't smoke."

"Well, you wanna stay for a while?" he asked. "There's gonna be a Halloween party here later tonight."

"Nah," I said, desperately to get out of here. "Thanks though, but I'm with my little brother. I need to take him home."

"Aye, Luke!" Calum shouted. "Quit hangin' around with that fag!"

Luke rolled his eyes. "Sorry," he said. "He's a dick."

"Ashton, c'mon!" I heard my brother yell behind me. "It's almost time to go home!"

"I gotta go," I said, turning back to Luke who looked...disappointed?

"It's cool," Luke said. "I'll see you tomorrow." With that, he turns and walks away and I do too, but not before I catch a glimpse of Calum's glare towards me.

What the hell was that all about?

Love, Ashton
