Y/N

"Go home y/n there's nothing more you can do here today. You did everything you could to keep the guy alive, but he chose to take his own life," Hoppo says calmly, patting you on the shoulder after taking you aside from everyone else on the beach.

You couldn't form any words, you were numb, still trying to comprehend how your day had ended up here. So you simply nod and walk into the changing rooms to grab your bag, after taking a quick shower to wash the blood away.

The young guy had been acting odd for most of the morning, saying stuff that concerned beachgoers enough that they came up to you and told you they were worried this guy was going to try and take his own life on the beach. So you headed over to see if everything was okay.

It wasn't, because when you arrived he's already slit both his wrists and was bleeding uncontrollably onto the sand. You radioed the tower and called for immediate backup, the first aid kit, and an ambulance.

You'd taken off your lifeguard shirt and was using it to stem the heavy blood flow until Hoppo and Deano arrived with the first aid kit. the guy struggled against Hoppo and Deano who held him down as you attempted to clean and dress the wounds until the ambulance got there.

It was too late, by the time the ambulance got there he'd bled out and was unresponsive. You, Deano and Hoppo were all in shock because something like this had never happened before on the beach.

Police and paramedics arrived, and after you gave your statement Hoppo pulled you aside and told you to go home and take it easy for the next few days.

Once in the apartment you shared with your boyfriend and fellow lifeguard Mouse, the weight of what happened washed over you and you found yourself laying down on the carpet sobbing.

MOUSE

As soon as I was done with the mass rescue down at Backpackers, I saw all the commotion up near the tower and radioed to see what was going on. Hoppo responded that I needed to come to his office and Jesse would take over for me.

I pass Jesse on the way back to the tower and he pats me on the shoulder, "y/n's gone through something rough and will need your support."

Hearing Jesse say y/n's name I rush to Hoppo's office where he was sat with a shocked looking Deano, and after a few seconds, I see the two lifeguards were covered in blood. What had happened to y/n? Where was she? Was this her blood?

Hoppo calmly explains what happened on the beach and that he'd sent y/n home. He told me to take as much time as I needed to look after y/n.

I've never run so fast in my life, getting back to the apartment in record time. I fumble with the door, and once I'm inside my heart breaks for my beautiful girlfriend. She was lying on the carpet in the living room silently crying.

y/n had a past with cutting herself and suicidal thoughts so witnessing a guy die in front of her was going to leave her mentally scarred. I walk into the bedroom and grab a couple of pillows and the duvet, before entering the living room.

"It's going to be okay y/n, you didn't know he was going to do something like that," I say, trying to reassure her.

I sit down next to y/n and put one of the pillows under her head, before lying down next to her on the carpet and throw the duvet over the top of us. y/n sniffles and rolls over to face me resting her tired and puffy-eyed face on my chest.

"As soon as I saw how deep he'd cut I knew there was no saving him, but I tried so hard to stem the bleeding, probably more to reassure myself that everything was going to be fine than him Mouse."

I stroke y/n's hair, "you did good y/n, I'm so proud of you for doing everything in your power to save someone's life."

y/n mumbles something incoherent into my chest, and I continue stroking her hair until I see her eyes close and know that she's fallen asleep on me. she was in a vulnerable state right now, and she looked so peaceful sleeping that I didn't want to wake her up.

~Few Hours Later~

y/n yawns and opens her eyes, "thank you for holding me Mouse, I think I needed comforting."

I chuckle, "I've been told I'm very comfortable y/n. I didn't want to wake you earlier, but now I really need the toilet."

y/n mirrors my chuckles and rolls off of me, "go to the toilet Mouse."

I don't need to be told twice before I'm up off the floor and running to the bathroom like a madman.

When I return to the living room y/n had repositioned herself on the sofa along with the pillows and duvet, "I ordered us some food if that's okay."

I smile and sit down next to her, pulling the duvet back over myself, "that's good with me y/n, it means we can cuddle more."

y/n cheers weakly and cuddles against me once more, "I know I'm going to wake up in the morning and not know how to feel Mouse."

I wrap my arms securely around her, "we'll take it one day at a time y/n. And I'll be there every step of the way."

I meant what I said; I wasn't going to leave y/n's side until she was feeling like her old self. I'd tell her in the morning that Hoppo said I can have time off to help her, right now I just wanted to cuddle her and take away some of the dark thoughts inside her head.
