SINGLETS

It was another beautiful day down at Bondi Beach, the weather was hot, so the tourists and locals were out in swarms covering every little area of sand and sea. There were some pretty nasty rips across the beach, and Hoppo was in the tower deciding where Harries and I should put the red and yellow flags since the water kept changing. This would be the third time in less than two hours that we'd moved them.

"Tower to Harries, put the flags up where you are right now, it looks the safest but you might have to move them again so the two of you stay in the area," Hoppo directs through the radio Harries was holding.

"Who needs the gym when you can put flags up and down all day," I joke, earning a chuckle from Harries.

"Better do what the boss man says," he replies.

We dig two holes and put the flags up, giving swimmers a relatively safe place to swim. Hoppo couldn't afford to close the beach on one of the hottest days on record, everyone would riot.

"Tower to Harries, can you and Singlets head south, there's a pretty big crowd forming," Reidy radios, sounding quite frantic.

I stand on the back of the rhino and look down the south end of the beach only to see the crowd getting bigger. y/n and Jesse were currently stationed down there and would definitely need backup.

"Call the Police and we'll check it out," Harries responds.

The two of us jump in the rhino and Harries bolts down the beach as fast as he could despite the swarms of people blocking the way. In the back of my head, I was thinking something awful had happened to y/n, if there was any sort of confrontation or fight she would try and break it up, but that didn't always end up good for lifeguards. Only last month was Deano punched in the nose when he tried to break up a fight.

"y/n and Jesse will be fine, Jesse can handle himself and will look out for y/n," Harries says in a semi-calm voice, trying to reassure me that everything would be okay.

I hum back, not quite sure what to say.

We stop five metres from the edge of the gathering crowd and jump out, "move out of the way!" I shout while Harries attempts to push through the crowd who didn't seem to want to part ways for us.

After a stressful couple of minutes, I break through the crowd to see a full on fight had broken out between four grown men. I glance around desperately searching for y/n, since I could see Jesse trying his best to do crowd control on the other side.

"y/n!" I call out.

Before panic can set in, even more, she emerges in front of me, "hey it's okay, what's wrong?"

My eyes widen seeing blood on her face and hands, had she been injured during the fight? I grab her as gently as I can and get the two of us out of the crowd leaving Harries and Jesse to deal with the fight.

"You're bleeding y/n, where are you hurt?" I say, checking her out for any obvious signs of injury.

She sighs, "none of it is my blood Singlets, I tried to break up the fight and got some blood on me from the men."

I feel like a complete idiot, of course, y/n was okay, she could hold her own. But seeing any loved one covered in blood in the middle of a fight would scare anyone.

I engulf her in a hug, "I'm sorry I just thought something had happened to you. I don't know what I would do..."

y/n hugs me back, "I'm fine, I'm right here, see? Everything's okay."

We spend the next few minutes hugging until I see the Police come towards us and I pull away from y/n.

"We have four men fighting in the middle officers," y/n says in a calm professional tone.

The officers nod and start breaking up the crowd, doing their job just like we did every day.

"I love you y/n," I say without even thinking.

She smiles warmly up at me, "I love you too, I love that you care about me so much. Now I would like to get this blood off me if possible," she laughs at the last part.

I shake my head and laugh with her, she currently resembled something out of a horror movie and needed to get cleaned up before she freaked out any beachgoers, "let's get you back to the tower then."

Harries could take the rhino Jesse and y/n had down here because y/n and I climbed into the one next to us and drove back up the beach towards the tower where she could get cleaned up and ready for the Police interview which came after any sort of confrontation on the beach.
