Third person POV

Clary had no way of knowing what time it was and since her sleep had been tormented, she gave up. Clary was now sitting up with her back to the bars of her cell as she waited for when Jace would get here and she would be taken to the ceremony. Over and over her mind would go back to her earlier thoughts of how all of this was Johnathans fault. If she hadn't pitied him, if she had gone away from him and let him die the way a monster deserved she wouldn't be in this situation. Through all of this resentment and hate there was a sweet, quiet voice at the back of her mind saying that this wasn't her. That she would to it again and that her brother deserved those moments, but the voice just made her angrier.

Clary resented her friends for not being there and at the same time wanted them as far away as possible.

Her head hurt and she was furious. At herself, her friends, her brother, her boyfriend, and especially the Silent Brothers.

Clary's POV

'If they could just hurry up! I'm sick of being here!' The ground is cold and there is this pounding in my head, I'm hungry, and I can't sleep.

My whole body is on edge and I want to punch someone.
If I could just get my hands on one of the Silent Brothers I would break their necks!
Suddenly I hear footsteps. Very light but hasty footsteps.
Jace comes to view around the corridor and nearly sprints to my side. He lifts a hand to my cheeks and all I can feel is this searing pain. It's as if someone is dragging a match over my skin at every place he touches.
"Ahhhhhh" I scream as I pull away. I look at him, fuming. Did he just to that on purpose? But when I look into his eyes my anger fades.
His eyes. His golden, lovely eyes.

"I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. I forgot and I just- I'm sorry Clary."
Those shiny golden eyes looked so terribly sad. Then he looks away.

A Silent Brother comes in and instantly my eyes are trained on him. My hands itching to tighten around his throat. If he would just come closer.

Jace's POV

I am looking away when I feel one of the Silent Brothers come in. The quietness and the eerie feeling they give off never fading, no matter how many times I meet one of them. When I look back at clary her eyes are fixated on Brother Florence. The shock of looking at her never fading either.

Clary looks wrong. Completely and utterly wrong. Her features completely changed.
Her once green, loving eyes now black, cold, and hateful. Her fierce, slight body now with a polar stance. She looks like a cheetah about to pounce, but with none of the beauty that they have. The red glow of her runes and the onyx of her eyes completely blinding.

I'm desperate, now. I need her back, I need this to work, and I need it right now. The only hope I have left are the scarce green flecks on her eyes.

Third person POV

Bother Florence suddenly moves forward and tells clary to place both her hands through the bars. He unlocks her shackle and places her hands in a ring of Fire. Next he opens the cell and starts escorting clary to the ceremony location. Jace follows suit and they soon leave the dark corridors and go through a large set of doors.

The doors send them into a whirlwind and drops them onto a large, barren clearing.

'A portal' Jace realizes.

Standing at the clearing are two Silent Brothers and three Iron Sisters. Jace's eyes immediately wondered to the sisters since they rarely made appearances outside of the citadel.

The sun isn't up yet and everything is dimly lit by a few witchlight rune stones every few meters.

Brother Florence escorts Clary to a thick wooden beam sticking vertically out of the dirt. He undoes the cuffs then redoes them around the beam.

Jace's POV

I go over to clary and my heart sinks. She looks terrified and murderous.

I lean in to give her a kiss but she moves away and I don't know if it's because of the burning or something else.

Suddenly one of the Brothers tells me to step away so they can begin.

An iron sister spreads grains of Adamas in a circle around clary then all three of them shout
"Ignis Aurum Probat!"

The adamas ignites and a ring of fire surrounds Clary.

The Brothers and sisters start chanting in Latin and my focus shifts back to Clary.

The fire is closing in on her and I can see it reflected in her eyes. The flames reflecting brightly in the blackness and enhancing the very tiny green flecks left.

Clary's eyes are wide and she is frantically trying to get loose.

I see the flames starting to lap at her ankles and hear the quick chant as she starts screaming.

For what seems like hours all I can hear are her screams. She is shouting my name but the harshness in her voice and the promise I made to her keep me from running and freeing her.

When the flames reach her waist I see them change from golden orange to a startling crimson. I start forward thinking it's her blood but her screams stop.

Her face, previously pained and horrified, relaxes. She looks over at me and everything turns to slow motion.

She looks over at me and her eyes turn green. That beautiful, emerald color. She smiles at me and I see her mouth something to me:
"I love you." I recognize. But as I am about to say it back she continues:
"I'm sorry, Jace. Keep your promise."
I'm shocked and frozen and then I see it happen.

Her eyes turn completely black, all of it, her runes pulse in the same blackish red color as the flames rapidly rising.

Her face dips down in a smirk and I watch as the flames rise over her head.

Then the next thing I see is a black form leaping from the flames and into the distance.

And Clary's gone.
