"That's a lot of excitement for someone who just let a Drevak demon nearly kill him. See something interesting?"

Jace's POV

I couldn't be sure. Everything was telling me it wasn't her. The black hair, the clothes she was wearing, the color of her eyes, how fast she was, how pale she was: it was all telling me that it wasn't Clary.
Especially that voice. It was completely unfamiliar.
But I saw her face. The freckles were more prominent through her parlor, and the eyes seemed more catlike because of the makeup, but I saw how small her body was, her high cheekbones, her small nose, and how tiny she was, nearly being swallowed by the couch before me.
I couldn't see her now, though. I could only feel the blade at my neck.
I didn't want to hope. I knew that if it wasn't her, it would be like losing her twice. I couldn't handle that. But I knew it was too late, every cell in my body was hoping for it to be her. And so I said...

Third Person POV

"Clary?"
"Oh so he does speak!" The woman responded sarcastically. "I am going to remove this blade from your neck and you will slowly turn towards me. No sudden movements. Got it?"

Jace dreaded moving. Every second that passed he was less sure that it was Clary. But he had to see, he had to check for himself; and so he turned.

As he did, he kept his eyes downcast, trained on the floor and then the heeled sandals that she wore. When he was finally with his body facing hers, he looked up.

His eyes wide and curious.
