There is so much screaming. Crying. Bright lights. All of the DEO agents are rushing around the headquarters, yelling and cursing.
A body lies on a stretcher. Above all of the chaos and anarchy, there is an obnoxious beeping noise.
Beep...beep...beep...beep...
They're losing her. It starts to grudge and drag.
"We're losing her. We're losing her!" J'onn cries. He can't lose her. After her... he can't even think of it. Not in a time like this.
They stick a tube down her throat. Beeeeeep......
The last one.
They may have just lost Alex Danvers.
12 hours before...
Maggie walks in and sees her fiancé. She's home! She's actually home! Maggie beams happily, but it doesn't brighten the room. There is something wrong. Wait, there is always something wrong.
She rushes to Alex's side. She is seeped in her chair, an empty shot glass is shattered on the floor and she seems sluggish. Maggie carefully steps over the shards of glass and hears them crackle underneath her feet despite the caution. She wraps her arms around her. No reaction. She doesn't even twitch.
Maggie lifts her up and gently, ever so gently, brings the limp body to the couch. She softly sets her down and brushes her thumb across her cheek and pushes her hair behind her ear. Her skin is cold. But she's not dead. Just drunk.
Maggie grabs the throw blanket that lies nearby and smoothly lays it out over her. She stands over her for a moment, stares at her painfully, and then carries on to her bed and lies down herself.
Alex awakens in the middle of the night. Her world is hazy and she has a horrible stomach ache. It feels as if she might hurl. The world tilts and swims in her vision. She staggers up and swings to the side a little bit, and then catches her balance.
She swallows the sour taste in her mouth and the lump in her throat goes down with it. She starts to walk towards to the door.
But a voice, a familiar and caring, but worried voice stops her. "Danvers, honey, where are you going?"
"Just our for a drive." She says, her words slurred.
"No, please stay here." Maggie begs and pats the pillow next to her, as if inviting her over.
"No, Maggie." Alex growled, and starts to turn the knob.
"I won't let you go." She suddenly says as her lover is about to walk out.
Alex spins around, a little too fast, and stumbles a bit. "Excuse me?"
There is just pure beer and rum in her voice. It's obvious she is still drunk. Her words are unsteady and bouncy, as they slobber. Her eyes are wild and angry, but yet searching for fun. But also sad and empty.
"Y-You heard me."
She scoffs and turns back toward the door. Maggie jumps out of bed and starts to run. Alex may be hungover and drunk, but she is still a DEO Agent.
So, Alex hears her racing footsteps and turns just in time to connect her fist with Maggie's jaw. She sprawls to the floor and doesn't get up, but instead stares up in utter shock and a sudden... fear.
"Don't try to stop me next time." Alex whispers so close to her face that Maggie can feel her hot breath and the bitter smell.
Alex makes sure to slam the door behind her.
And she starts to drive. But unlike any other time she has drunk driven, she smashes her foot against the gas pedal.
The engine roars. The wind is cold and icy against Alex's face as she stares forward, no sign of stopping in her expression. She has finally given up on fighting.
A car swerved in front of her. The car horn breaks the air. The ear-splitting sound of grinding tires and scraping metal fills the atmosphere.
Crash.
