Rex stood in the doorway of our dining room, forcing my father to his feet along with everyone else, except for me and my mother. Zak instantly went for him, but was pulled back by his father just in time.
"How dare you show your face here." My father growled. "Even after the warning you were given."
"Relax Raine. I just wanted to make sure she got home safely. I didn't trust Ozai to back down so easily." Rex confronted my father looking around the room.
"You son of a bitch! I'll rip your head off for what you've done to her!" Zak shouted, struggling against his fathers grip like a wild animal.
"You're the husband I take it." Rex noted watching him squirm.
"Rex ya need to leave. Now." Tyson warned him, seeing how uncomfortable I had become.
"For the record, I was going to free her. I have a friendship and reputation with Ozai to keep, so I couldn't just do it right in front of him. I was going to make him think I had taken care of her once and for all. But now I don't have to come up with a lie so that makes it easier for me that you got there first." Rex explained, a look of disbelief across everyone's face.
"You expect us to trust you?! After what you did you can shove any attempts of reconciliation up your arse!" Zak burst out again. Rex eyes him curiously and shook his head.
"I don't want your trust or your friendship. I can't stress that enough. But I wasn't going to let Ozai loose on her. I'll say it one last time Raine. Keep a closer eye on your daughter." Rex finished, turning around to leave. I breathed a sigh of relief. That could have gone much worse.
"Are ya alright?" Tyson whispered as he sat back down next to me. I barely nodded as I composed myself feeling thankful I hadn't been ripped from my seat and thrown into the back of Rex's or anyone else's car.Rex suddenly stopped and turned to face my father.
"Have you ever heard of an exchange of power?" Rex asked and my father shook his head.
"I may remember reading an old journal entry of my grandfathers about it but I can't recall what it said. Why?" My father quizzed.
"Well he's got it bad. It explains a lot" Rex nodded to Zak who passes him an evil look. "She was so much like Cora." He trailed off, flashing me a brief glance.
"Was?" My father puzzled but Rex only nodded as he left. I was left confused more than ever and nervous at how rattled Zak had become next to me.Everyone took their place back at the table to continue eating. Nobody spoke a word until guess who broke the silence.
"I can't believe you just stood there. You did nothing, again, and what's worse you engaged in polite chit chat!" Zak spoke with dismay towards my father.
"Zak you can't speak to Dante like that. He is still your alpha!" James scowled at his son in annoyance.
"I don't care! That beast deserves nothing less than what he deserves. And that ain't friendly chit chat. I don't know what that bastard was insinuating about me, but he has no right coming here!" He growled clenching onto his spoon. I sat in silence staring into my bowl. I hated this. The arguing and fighting and shouting. I hated it. It's all there ever was these days.
"Zak he's gone now so let's just finish eating in peace." I said calmly which only aggravated him more. If that was even possible.
"Who knows what could have happened to you today! All because you decided to run off in a huff because your fancy man has got himself a woman!" He spat. "Yeah, I know about the email. Get a grip and start acting more like an adult!"
"I'm going to finish my dinner in my office." My father said disappearing outside. Wish I could join him. It was incredibly tense in here and I could feel tears prick my eyes, not just from Zaks harsh words, but because this was my life now. And I was stuck.
"You shouldn't talk to her like that. She is your wife. She's been through a lot today. Give her a break." Tyson spoke firmly and I gave him a faint smile to show my appreciation.
"Give her a break!? This is your fault! All she wants to do is wear your clothes and talk to you! Now you come rushing in to 'save the day' like a hero and you won't even fucking leave!" Zak shrieked over the top of me.
"Please! Stop arguing and eat!" James butt in, causing silence to fall over the table. I breathed out a sigh of relief.
