I looked between the awkward faces of my parents, Logan and little wolf as Zak had pieced together my little secret.
"We are so leaving." Zak spoke sternly, grabbing me by the arm and beginning to pull me away.
"Get off! I don't want to leave yet!" I fought back against his grip as it grew tighter and tighter.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you!" Logan shouted but Zak didn't take any notice. I saw a very angry looking little wolf watching me being dragged away, again, and his fists clenched at his sides. He surged forward and grabbed Zak by the arm that held tightly onto me and squeezed, causing him to wince and drop his hold.
"Back the fuck off." Zak growled, reaching for me again but I swiftly moved away from his grip and stood next to little wolf.
"I'm not ready to leave yet! If you want to go then you go!" I told him causing a scene. Zak looked between little wolf and I and reached for me again, being blocked several times.
"Get out of my way! She is my wife! She is coming home with me!" Zak growled in little wolfs face but he didn't flinch. His eyes turned black and his hand flew out faster than I could even see, striking Zak in the chest causing him to drop to the ground in an instant. I had to admit, the power and dominance coming from little wolf excited me probably more than it should have.It didn't take long for Zak to scramble back to his feet looking flushed and embarrassed. He brushed of his dark trousers and straightened himself up, flattening his white shirt with his hands and rubbing where he had been struck. It must have hurt. A lot.
"Ember, we are leaving. Now. You've embarrassed both of us enough today." Zak told me in a deep, low voice. I did feel bad for him but I just didn't want to leave yet. I couldn't. I finally see little wolf again and there's so much I want to know about him. How he had changed so much in such a short space of time and from the look on peoples faces, how he became so feared. But I couldn't talk to him with Zak around. I couldn't talk to any guy other than my dad with him around. His jealousy and dominance have reached levels even I thought were impossible.
"I'll come when I'm ready." I told Zak again but in a whisper this time, feeling all eyes steadily on us. He sighed heavily standing his ground.
"You think I'm going to just walk away and leave you here with him? Your mystery guy!" He spoke softer but through gritted teeth. "Why did you bring her here? You obviously knew. Are you trying to make a mockery out of me?!" He raised his voice towards my father who soon scuttled over to quieten him.
"Yes I knew, but that was a long time ago. Thought maybe we could all be adults about this and get along?" My father spoke assertively. "Besides, Max is the alpha here which not only means you need to show a little more respect, but when it's your turn to be alpha, it will be much easier to have him as an ally than an enemy." I could tell from little wolfs expression he wasn't keen on being buddies and Zak was no doubt feeling the same.
"Fine! Just tell your daughter to come home with me and we'll leave you in peace." Zak folded his arms waiting for my father to send me off with him. But he didn't.
"Ember can chose if she wants to say or leave and I believe she has made that choice."My father glanced to me with a soft look across his face, one that wasn't annoyed we had caused such a scene, or one that said 'we will talk about this later'. Rather, his face showed that he was for once on my side. He wanted me to stay. But why? He's always pushing me to Zak. Trying to get me to have a pup so I can finally realise what's important. This was the first time, ever, he acted in the opposite way and I wasn't sure if this was a good thing or a bad thing yet, but I was just glad I didn't have to go home with Zak. Especially now little wolf was here. I couldn't leave yet.
"I get it. I'll go..." Zak snapped. "But this isn't over. I'll be wanting a word with both of you when you get back." He stormed off before either of us could say anything and I breathed a sigh of relief.
"Thank you for..." I began to my father but he shook his head and cut me up before I could finish.
"Don't need to thank me. I was just stating the obvious. Besides, I think you'll be able to catch up better with the alpha now Zak isn't around. That is what you want, isn't it?" He asked and I nodded without hesitating. "Good. As long as you're happy." He finished which took me back slightly. He wanted me to be happy? It was always about doing what's right and what's best for the pack and for everyone else. He knew I had been unhappy with Zak from the beginning, never wanting to marry him or bare his pups, but it was always "for the good of the pack." Why did he seem to be changing his tune now?
