Joey let himself into the apartment after work to be met with the smell of cookies in the oven. He smiled, already anticipating getting to enjoy more of his girlfriend's baking. He made his way to the kitchen, Diane following at his heels.
"Hi," Lauren beamed at him when he walked in, abandoning the icing she was currently making to come over to him. She kissed his cheek then wrapped her arms round him in a hug. He kissed the top of her head before she let go and turned back to the icing.
"You're just in time to ice them," she informed him as the timer went off and she turned to the oven to take out the tray of cookies.
He helped her transfer them onto a rack, putting one into his mouth when he thought she wasn't looking and chewing quickly. He might have gotten away with it if it weren't for the whimper he let out as it burned his mouth.
She slapped his arm gently.
"I was just testing them!" he said, swallowing.
"And?" she asked, raising an eyebrow at him.
"Perfect," he grinned. "As usual."
She rolled her eyes, handing him one piping bag as she picked up the other. She kept glancing over at him as she worked, grinning fondly at his shaky letters as he piped her name, making her wish she'd been a little more inventive than her own pattern of snowflakes and Christmas trees. When she was done she reached out and grabbed one of the cookies from his side, popping it into her mouth and chewing thoughtfully.
"Not bad," she agreed.
Joey was looking at her accusingly.
"What?" she asked, bewildered.
"Now it doesn't say Lauren anymore!"
She laughed at him, kissing his cheek.
"We were gonna eat them eventually anyway JoJo."
He pouted at her, and she picked up another cookie and fed him a bite to cheer him up. He chewed contentedly and then lifted up her wrist so he could take another bite, but she shoved it in her own mouth instead, smirking at him.
Joey started to protest but she held a finger up.
"Remind me who made them?"
He just rolled his eyes at her, pressing a kiss to her wrist.
"That's what I thought," she said, patting his cheek.
