"So you've got the gingerbread pieces, icing, candy," Lauren said, pointing. "And whoever builds the best house wins."
"Got it," Joey confirmed.
"May the best woman win," Lauren said, grabbing the bowl of icing.
Joey turned towards the opposite side of the kitchen, about to start constructing his gingerbread house when he realised he needed the icing.
"Nice one Lo," he admitted, now knowing why she had been so eager to claim the bowl. He heard her laugh.
Eventually he managed to get the icing off of her so he could make a start on building his house. He looked over his shoulder at Lauren's house, which already had three walls standing, and tried to speed up.
Lauren wandered over to his side of the kitchen a little while later, peering around his work space with a frown on her face.
"Where the fuck have you put the icing?" Lauren said, wanting to be annoyed at him but unable to stop her laughter.
Joey turned around to her and grinned, pointing up on top of the cupboards where Lauren didn't have a hope in hell of reaching.
She let out a low growl and clambered up onto the counter so she could get the icing back, being sure to 'accidentally' knock into Joey's gingerbread house on the way down.
"Lauren!" he exclaimed, despairing.
"What?" she asked sweetly.
Joey just shook his head at her and went about piecing the walls of his house back together.
Lauren carefully piped stripes of icing across the roof of her house. She turned around to grab some sweets to use as Christmas lights, only to see Joey shoving a handful in his mouth.
"Stop eating the decorations JoJo!" she giggled, slapping his hand away.
She returned to her structure, carefully pushing the sweets into the icing and then stepping back to admire her work.
Joey had finished by now too, and carried his house cautiously over to hers, desperate not to drop it.
Lauren looked them both over appreciatively.
"Mine definitely wins," she said happily.
"What? No way!" Joey protested. "Look, I used two different colours of icing!"
"But look what a bad job you did!" she said, pointing out the patchily smeared on icing.
"You didn't even fill in your roof!"
"And see how much better mine looks."
Joey looked down at his girlfriend, who had her arms folded across her chest smugly. He slid her phone out of her back pocket and handed it to her, while she looked at him quizzically, her head tilted to one side.
"You can let instagram decide," he explained, grinning.
"What do I get when I win?" Lauren asked childishly.
Joey smiled, pretending to think.
"How about a kiss?"
Lauren smirked. "I guess that's a pretty good prize."
"But what do I get if I win?"
She smiled softly at him, cupping his face in her hand.
"You're not gonna win."
A/N I'm so glad this is still relevant seeing as they've made it an annual tradition
