Lauren flopped down onto the couch beside Joey, reading his phone screen over his shoulder even as he tried to angle it away from her.
"Were those new year's resolutions?" she asked, pulling the phone towards her. Joey had no choice but to let her see. Her eyes scanned the list.
"'Tell Lo I love her more'? JoJo, you do that every day," she said, smiling up at him. Her heart had melted at the words, though, being reminded of how much she meant to Joey making her grateful all over again for being lucky enough to have him fall in love with her.
"Still not enough though," he replied with a sappy grin, leaning forward to kiss her. She reached her hands up to cup his face, extending the kiss.
"I love you," he said as he pulled away, brushing her hair behind her ear.
"It's not January yet," she said jokingly as she took his hand and entwined their fingers. Joey took a second to gaze wonderingly at the ring on her finger before he met her eyes again.
"It's still true though," he said, hoping she knew he was serious. It was always true.
She leaned into him, her cheeks pink.
"Are you making any resolutions?" he asked her after a while.
She thought for a moment. Then, "Get another dog."
Joey laughed, shaking his head at her. "You remember we can only have two, right?"
She shrugged. "I'll find a way."
"You know I'd let you have three dogs if we could."
"Four," Lauren said quickly.
Joey rolled his eyes, having forgotten about her change of heart. "Whatever you want."
She squeezed his hand, not needing words to let him know that at the end of the day, all she wanted was him.
