"Hi JoJo," Lauren called from the kitchen as she heard the front door open. She leaned round the kitchen doorway, and he smiled at her as he walked across to the dining table and set down a small gift bag on top of it. He paused to kiss her quickly before he went back to the hallway to take his shoes off.
Lauren had made her way over to the table, her fingers pulling the edge of the bag towards her, when Joey called over his shoulder, "Don't look in it."
She looked up, seeing that he hadn't even turned around, and scowled. He stood up straight and turned to her, grinning at her expression. He put an arm around her waist and pulled her into him to kiss her temple as he picked the bag up.
"You'll find out what it is soon," he said, as he disappeared to hide the bag.
Lauren went back into the kitchen to try and distract herself with the cooking. Hours later, curled up on the couch with Joey, she still couldn't stop thinking about what he could have bought.
"I'll be right back," she said, pushing herself out of his lap and vanishing down the hallway. She pushed open the door to their bedroom, pausing in the middle of the room to look around and wonder where he might have hidden it.
She pulled open his sock drawer, rifling through it, before turning to the wardrobe and searching behind shoe boxes.
"What are you doing?" asked a familiar, amused voice behind her.
She spun around guiltily. "Nothing."
He grinned at her, holding out his arms to her. She moved into the hug, and he pressed a kiss to her forehead.
"Why do you always try to ruin my surprises?"
"Because I don't like surprises," she whined, leaning back in his arms.
"You'll like this one, I promise," he reassured her. "Just please tell me you'll stop looking for it?"
She sighed, pressing a kiss to the underside of his jaw. "Fine, but only because I love you."
"Glad to hear it."
