Everyone has a story. A killer, a popular girl, a single parent, a cat lady, any person you have met, even me. Some people want their story heard but then there's the others trying to hide it, even from themselves. I have one secret that I will never share. My past. And here it is...

I wake up, ready for the day ahead. School, homework, friends, sleep, then do it again. Running out the door, I catch the apple my mom throws me and hurry to meet up with Kayla and Sofie.

By the time school is over, I'm so excited to make plans with my friends for next week but homework before fun. Kayla and I sit in the back of her car as we help each other with our work. Ironically, English is my strong suit but math is one of my worsts. Kayla's is the other way around. As Kayla works, I can't help but realize her greenish blue eyes filled with concentration and confusion. Every so often her hand would push her beeline honey hair behind her ears, a sign of her frustration.
"Check for some hints in that trench coat of yours." I joke.
"Joke all you want. You told me once to do what's makes me happy, and this coat makes me happy."
The time flies by and it's already getting dark. We pack up our things and climb into the front. She speeds just over the speed limit and we're at Genevieve's house under five minutes. She runs out with Sofie to greet us. Sofie with her short skirt and crop top looking even more shrunk than usual and Genevieve with her clever smile on her face. She has something planned. After the hugs, they drag us inside and sit us down.
"So, Shadow, I was thinking from Friday to Sunday. That way we can just stay here or something and don't have to worry about meeting up every morning. Do you think your mom would be okay with that?" Gen asks me.
"Like if she's going to care. It's the weekend! She knows we have some plans just doesn't know what yet," I insure. As long as my mom knows where I am and can get ahold of me, she doesn't care if I go out on the weekends. Those are my days to get away and be with my friends.
"Great! So we bring our stuff here on Friday and then we go to Kevin's party. Meet each other there?" Sofie asks. Everyone nods in agreement so we all squeal and hug each other while jumping up and down. I'm not the biggest fan of this but hey, whatever fits me into the group. We say our goodbyes and Kayla hurries to start the car.
"Shit, I have to be home in ten minutes," she exclaims.
"You hurry home, I'll walk. That should save you some time."
"I'm not going to make you walk. I'll make up an excuse or something."
"It's fine, I want to walk," I try to convince her. I do like walking so it will be nice not having the normal idiots surrounding me as I walk this time.
"Your mom hardly ever lets you out past dark as it is. And you know her rule about not walking around by yourself once the street lamps are on."
"I'll be fine, I can defend myself. Now just unlock the door."
"Fine, but you text me as soon as you get home," she finally gives in. I smile as I jump out of the car and she drives away. I put on my music and start walking in the other direction, towards home. Kayla and I met when we were in grade five and have been glued to each other's side ever since. We tell each other everything and never once have we betrayed the others trust. She's my best friend, my true friend. I would do anything for her and have. One time in seventh grade, she was being bullied so I kicked the grade twelve in the balls. That was the first time I was ever violent. Kayla is the only one from my friend group that knows me truly. I am not one of these girly girls but I act like I am to fit in.
