Almost summer. Finally. Today is the last day of school. I just have to get through the day. That's it. I grab my bag avoiding Kaytons eyes. I don't care if it's been a few months, I don't see him as I use to. When I look at him, I don't see my big brother. Nothing about him looks different and I know he hasn't taken any heroin and hasn't even been tempted again, but I don't see him.
I'm met in the school stairwell by Kayla and Jason. Jason's smile once he sees me, give me such a joyful feeling, every single day. He opens his arms to give me a hug like every day, and Kayla winks at me like every day. I flip her off without Jason seeing as like every day too. The morning routine is always the same. It's the actual day that is different and always excites me to find out what will happen.
First class is always stressful with Mr Drumbix. Jason and I get to class early today to talk privately about later today.
"You see those too right?" He asks me staring at the front of the room. Why is there drums in this classroom? Why his classroom. I run over to them with a devilish smile.
"He finally found something to listen to him! I'm surprised he didn't think about it before. It's in his name!" I joke.
"Are you implying he speaks drum cause he is one?" Jason asks with a serious face. I start laughing and sit on the front counter.
"Drumbix the drum. I like it."
"Or a brand, the Drumbix drum. The new and improved bongo to keep you beating yourself up. Who wouldn't want it?" Jason laughs.
"I mean, I would buy it!" I joke along.
"Wow, never expected you two to be here before the announcements," Mr Drumbix walks in. I jump down off the counter with my head down. Today I don't feel like having a detention. After school, I just want to hang out with Jason. The bell rings so Jason and I quickly sit down in our desks.
"Wow, no comments and sucking up? What are you planning Mince?"
"Nothing sir," I say biting my lip. He walks out of the classroom to 'greet' everyone at the door. Jason starts laughing and I just smile. One by one, students walk into the classroom with a large booklet, and sit down at there assigned seats. One of the booklets slam down on my desk catching me off guard. I dig my nails into my palm to relax my reflexes.
"So last day. That booklet on your desk, you will finish this period. No talking. There are no announcements today so start," Mr Drumbix announces then sits down at his desk. The seating is better this month so I don't mind working quietly. I'm still in my original seat but now there's a space then Jason's desk.
The sighs of the class breaks me from my focus. No one here likes this booklet any more than me but working on it does pass the time. Why can't people just shut up for the last ten minutes? I look over at Jason and he gestures his head towards the dumbs.
Is he asking what I think he's asking? I nod and start packing everything up in my bag. Jason hands in our booklets and hurries up to the front of the classroom before Mr Drumbix can say anything.
"What do you two think your doing?" He asks sternly. I grab the drum sticks, pass two to Jason, then start making a random beat on one of the drums. Jason starts a different one on his until they both have a similar but different beat. Kinda like hearts. All heart beats are the same as in function but there all unique to their owner.
