Chapter 12: The Set Path

I get home and the house is dark. I wasn't expecting Kayton to be passed out already. I stay quiet and start to walk through the living room. I kick something so I bend down and start feeling around. The remot probably fell off the couch or something. Something sharp pricks my finger so I pull away fast. What the hell was that? I run over and turn on a light. I recognize it right away. I pick it up and go straight to my brothers room.
"Are you insane?!" I yell pushing open his door. He turns to me and I can see his eyes are red a puffy.
"Shade wait,"
"I'm not going to wait! Kayton how could you! You saw what it did to dad! What's wrong with you? You were the only one I trusted and now your turning into him! Heroin Kayton? Heroin!"
"I don't do it," he says quietly.
"What!?" I still yell. How could he.
"The school called before I did it. Shade, I didn't do it."
"What am I supposed to believe you didn't do it when I was at the store that whole time?!"
"Shade the stuff was right there with the needle. If you found that then you found the actual drug."
"There was nothing else there. This damn thing was on the ground and pricked me! If you want to do badly mess up your life then don't brings others into it!"
"It was on the tv stand..."
"What? Then where's..." I turn fast and hear Kayton hurry off his bed and we start running around the house.
"Jasmin?" He calls out over and over.
"Jazzy? Come here Jasmin," I call. I look in each room and Kayton does too. I push my door open and freeze.
"Any luck? " Kayton calls to me. I stay quiet and slowly walk over beside me bed. Kayton runs into my room as I bend down and start stroking the top of Jasmin's head. I feel Kayton starting to put his hand on me.
"Get away from me!" I yell pushing him off me.
"Shade..."
"Shut up! I can't believe you!"
"Shade I..."
"No! Just shut up! Get away from me and shut up! I hate you! She was the only thing I had left of dad and you just killed her! I hate you!" I yell then push him out of my room and slam the door. I don't know what I'm thinking other than to get him away. I sit down beside my black lab and keep stroking her. My phone buzzes so I quickly check, hoping it's Kayla. It wasn't her, it was instead Jason.
"Shadow, please open the door," Kayton pleads. I don't think I've heard him ever plead at me. He nocks again so instead of opening the door, I open the message.

J- Talk? Please?
I start thinking of a good excuse I can use.
S- When?
That wasn't what I was supposed to text.
J- Tonight? Please?
S- Where?
J- I can meet you out front of your house or a block away from mine. Or would you rather at the park or something?
S- I'll meet you out front of my house at 7?
J- Perfect. Thanks
