Andrew~

I couldn't find her. No matter how hard I looked. I pushed tree branches out of the way as I trudged through the forest. Dirt was smeared over my face and the rest of my body. My clothes had tears in them from branches and bushes. I heard a rustle of moving leaves in the distance. And then a flash of movement that looked mysteriously dark in the autumn light.

Sort of like... A shadow. And then something was holding me in my place, there cold slinky arms wrapping around me and engulfing me in darkness. It made a loud sucking sound as I felt all of my good memories begin to drain from me. Horrors and ghosts and mistakes flashed before my eyes and I could feel so much hatred and sorrow, it was enough to kill me. My dad dying in front of me during combat... The blood... The sound of my crying and screaming 'come back.'  Living without Desmia for eight years... Her sudden reappearance and having to stay with Serena... My fight with Desmia... Her walking slowly away from me, her figure getting smaller and harder to see as she gets farther and farther away. That she still wasn't here. My legs were getting weak. I rasped a chest-racking cough and blood started to appear. It was the blood of my father when I didn't help him.

I closed my eyes and tried to block all the bad memories. I thought about my first kiss with Desmia, her sweet eyes as she asked me to run away with her. The sincerity in her voice as she told me that she loved me. The meadow when she looked around, as if amazed that she had actually been right. Her bronze colored hair hanging in ringlets down her back and her eyes shining with happiness. The sunlight making her skin glow. She was perfect. And for a second I lost the memory and she was gone.

I squeezed my eyes tighter and remembered her with more clarity. Her eyes, her hair, her sweet scent, her skin. Everything. I focused on how much I missed her and how much I love her. The Shadow's grip loosened and it shuddered in horror at the happy memory. I shoved my elbow back and it lost it's hold. I ran through the woods, breathing heavily. I tripped over some roots but I picked myself back up several times and ran. My clothes were more torn than before but nothing that was too unmanageable. I looked over my shoulder several times. Nothing was in sight but I kept running until I could hardly stay on my feet. I crouched to the ground and held my head in my hands. I had been running from the haunting times and the blackness. Everything was so abstruse and I could barely make anything out. They were like flashes of the times. Flickers of the things I had tried so hard to make disappear. They were locked in the back of mind. So that I would never see them again. And now they were all coming back full force.  A soft sob escaped my lips and all I wanted was to have my Mia with me, I knew she could comfort me.

Desmia~

I laid in the soft grass in a field. The water nymphs playing in the river. My fingers ran over the locket over and over. The back had some small waves on it. I turned it over to look at them again. Hoping for another hint. I saw a small inscription on the back. The entrance shall be found under a cloudless rain. I stared at it in confusion. What was that supposed to even mean? I had to find out. The little pixies that had been braiding my hair looked curiously over my shoulder at the inscription. She beckoned her hand. Could it really be that easy?

She lead me to many places that I had never seen of this dimension. We finally reached an island and the pixie circled around me, pointing at the survival package she'd made me buy on the way. "What?" I asked her dumbly. She kept pointing at it. I sighed as I slipped it off my back. All that was in it was some bandages, crackers, a few bottles of water, and some gooey stuff that I assumed you rub on something that's infected to clear it out. " 'The entrance shall be found under a cloudless rain.' " I murmured. I poured some of the water on the rocks. It darkened. Okay, so I have to put water on it.

The pixie nodded excitedly. "What am I looking for though?" I asked her, knowing that even if she knew she couldn't talk to me. She made a motion with her arms. "Swimming?" I asked and she nodded. Then she pushed her legs together in a tight firm line. "A mermaid?" I asked, hesitantly.

She smiled vibrantly and nodded. I started to pour water over the rocks, watching them darken and then I emptied the first bottle. "Am I supposed to water the whole thing?" I asked in exasperation. I didn't have that much water anyway. A few minutes later it was there, I saw the shape of a mermaid on two rocks that were on top of each other, leaving a little space in the middle of her stomach. "Okay, now what?" I asked. I eyed the space between the two rocks carefully, then looked at my hand. It was the right size... I slowly lowered my hand into the hole and felt around. There was a ridge, it felt like a latch. I pulled on it and I saw rocks raise and rearrange themselves into a spiral stair pathway. I smiled as I walked on the steps. When I reached the end, it looked like we were in the center of a volcano. And there was writing in the sand. "Wait until the day is gone, that is when the fun will have just begun. The water will bubble, the moon will shine, there will be light. Be paitent. We are shy."

I sat down in the sand and looked at the pool of water in front of me. Another dead end. Is that all there would ever be? Another clue? Maybe the clues didn't lead anywhere. Maybe they weren't invented to find an end to the war. Maybe instead, they were invented by the Shadows so that whenever a conspirator tried to go against them, they could be executed. I kept thinking about this until the sun started to set. I could see it from the volcano like hole at the top. I was starting to get anxious. What was I waiting for? What if it didn't come? What if it or they had died over the last few years? What if they didn't want to help? What if they tried to kill me? I was too young to die. And then there was the fact that the last thing I said to Andrew wasn't 'I love you.'  I couldn't die without him knowing that I loved him. That would  be a nightmare and I could never leave this earth without knowing for sure that he knew. As if on cue, the water started to bubble. The moon cast light over the entire pool of water. The water casted glints of light on the cavern's walls.

Where was whoever or whatever I was waiting for? Something started to emerge from the water. I looked at the spot where it was coming from. What was it exactly? When it-- or should I say they came up, I gasped in shock. They were beautiful. But wait-- who was that behind them? Oh no...
