No answer. What did that mean? Where were they? That's when I remembered that I had a flashlight. I shined it into the darkness and there was a menacing hiss that followed. "What the...?" I began and then it became clearer. Shadows were gagging all of my friends and they couldn't answer. "No!" I yelled.
"You have come so far, Princess. It's a shame that you can't finish your quest." One said in a calculative voice.
"I will prevail." I say, lacing my voice with conviction, power, and authority.
"You have already lost." they laugh.
Think... What can I do to free my friends? "Why are you down here?" I ask.
"We've been here for centuries. The queen had us sent away when we would no longer cooperate with her selfish needs. We became strong while the Shinies weakened in time. And now, you have come of age and our Shadow brought you here. But she didn't do the right thing. You were meant to die. Your blood must spill in two days time, you will awake our master." they whisper.
"What did you do for the queen?" I ask, looking around and desperately trying to find anything.
"We were the finest dressmakers in the dimension, we made every gown your queen has."
"Really?" I feign interest.
"Yes, they were the most beautiful anyone has ever seen. And now we can not show our talent anymore."
"If you let my friends and I go, I can promise that we'll free you when I become the new queen."
The shadow tsked. "You will not become queen. You are lying."
"Oh, but I am not. I promise you that if you grant me freedom, I'll make sure everyone knows of your talent."
"I don't know..."
"Or I can let everyone think that the queen herself made those dresses." The shadow hisses.
"This can not happen! The queen did not do anything!"
"I know... But everyone will believe that she made the gowns instead of you if you don't let my friends and me out."
"If this is some form of trickery, Princess, I swear, I will find you and personally kill you." The shadow warns.
"It's not. Please let us go." I say in my most assuring voice.
"Let them pass." The shadow sighs and the rest grumble as they let my friends go.

"That was amazing!" Riley enthused when we were out of the cave.
"Thanks." I deadpan.
"Are we coming back for them?" Heather asked.
"No, my flower." I say sweetly.
We reach the top of the mountain again and when I see the scene below us, my heart sinks.
"Guys...?" I trail off.
"The war is starting." Samuel says in a monotone.
"We need to get down there." I say on instinct.
Riley grabs my arm. "If we do that, we'll get slaughtered."
"It's a chance we have to take." I remind him.
"We won't be helping anyone if we get ourselves killed." He points out.
"I have a plan... Sort of." I assess the battle ground in front of us.
"What is it?" He asks.
"We have to go into the palace." I say as a Shadow spirals around one of the towers, causing it to collapse.
"By the time we get there, the whole castle will be rubble."
"Not the room we need." I say and begin to walk forward.
A/N: hiya, people! The next chapter is the last one. And then the epilogue. No sequel I don't think. I'm going to start a new story. But I don't think it will be any of the current chapters in "Just a Few Ideas." The title I'm thinking of for my new story is: My Best Frenemy Forever.
