We finally stopped moving and we were in a small meadow, surrounded by oak and hickory trees, illuminating the sunlight through the red, orange, and yellow leaves, casting shadows around us. Caroline cringed away from the shadows. "There only from the trees, Caroline. What are you doing?" I managed to get out in a whisper.
"They may only be shadows from the trees, but that means the real Shadows will be attracted to here, we need shiny things, Mia." she explained. I put my hand in the pocket of my gown and pulled out some of the shiny things I kept with me all the time to be sure the Shadows wouldn't try to whisper bad things in my ear. I put them around Caroline and I in the shape of a circle.
"There; now we're safe." I said as Caroline relaxed. She sent some magic light orbs from her fingers to chase away the shadows. I watched them in awe, as they put a protective charm around the meadow so the shadows couldn't get us.
"You can put your shiny things away now, the protective charm should be enough." I started to collect my things and put them back into my pockets. The sunlight blazed brighter then before, through the trees, the only shadows being the small ones that Caroline couldn't get rid of that wouldn't attract the Shadows anyway. A brook the color of iron was rushing at the far edge of the meadow. I made my way over to it and dipped my feet in its cool water. Letting it rush over my toes, it felt wonderful. I sighed in contentment. Butterflies flew around me, the passing breeze tickling my cheeks and playing with strands of my long brown hair. A smile lit up my face and Caroline came up beside me. "Told you that it would be better here." she said, teasing lightly. She looked different here. She had a shimmery look to her, almost as if she were glowing with shine.
"Caroline, you look like a star." I said, awestruck. She smiled at me.
"That's the only way you're people see us." she says. I look dumbly at her.
"You are the stars in our night sky?" I asked. She nods. My mouth forms a small "O". She rises her hand and waves it in a flourish. She looks down and I follow her example. Below us, is my dimension, I see the palace and the market place and the beautiful purple mountains with the snow covering the top. "Can we please go back?" I ask softly. Caroline waves her hand again and all I see is the green luscious grass of the meadow. I see the violet wild flowers and the beautiful trees that are looming over me. Caroline's hand is still out and a butterfly lands on her index finger. I examine it closely, it's wings are almost multi-colored. They're white with light blue and pink veins over the thin membrane of the wing.
"We can't go back yet, we just got here." Caroline said softly, letting the buterfly fly off of her finger and disappear into the shadows of the trees. I curled myself into a tight ball and leaned my head against my knees.
"I miss Andrew." I murmur against my knee.
**Andrew**
I paced back and forth in Desmia's room. Where was she? I knew that her mother was going to yell at her, but normally it didn't take this long. But I was supposed to stay here. I couldn't leave and abandon Mia. Minutes passed and in that time I decided that I wasn't waiting any longer. I pushed open the door and closed it tightly behind me. I walked a little ways until I found the secret passageway that Mia had showed me before. I practically lived in the palace with her, since my father is the captain of the palace guard. The Diamond family had served our family well. Desmia Diamond was my best friend, my princess, and unfortunately, my love. She didn't know that though. My father had told me it was near impossible that I would ever be more then her personal bodyguard when she became queen and I became the head of the palace guard. "Desmia!" I heard her mother scream and I looked through to see a blue light and my Mia disappearing into it.
"Desmia!" I yelled crashing out of the secret passageway. "No, no, no..." I sobbed and her mother and father turned to look at me.
"Andrew?" her mother said in shock. I nodded helplessly. I was going to get into a lot of trouble with my father.

"No one can know that the princess is missing." the Queen said.
"How are they not going to know?" I ask from my spot beside my father.
"We need a replacement. A fill-in that looks close enough to Desmia that no one else will know except the four of us." she said. "Go look for our replacement in the orphanage. Adopt one of the girls who looks like her, no one must know. Do not breathe a word of what has happened to a single soul." the Queen says, her eyes locked intently on me, as if she's only telling me to not tell anyone. As if I don't know what that would do. That could compromise the whole kingdom. It could put us into a war.
A/N: Okay, another chapter, I needed something to do. Lol, I hope you like it. The video on the side is a piano composition by Alexandre Desplat from The Twilight Saga: New Moon. I know the song was out before that, but ya know, that's where I know it from... Sorry, I fell in love with it and I figured since they were in a meadow in the beginning it kind of fit since it's called The Meadow, ironically enough. Make sure you vote&fan&comment if you liked it, thank you. :-) Arrivederci people! Love, Ash xoxo
